De Ruyter Medal
De Ruyter Medal (Dutch: De Ruyter-medaille) was created by royal decree no. 1 on 23 March 1907 by Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands, to be awarded to those members of the Dutch Merchant fleet who distinguish themselves by praiseworthily acts of duty for the Dutch Ship transport. The medal can be awarded in gold, silver or bronze. Awarding is on basis by nomination of the Netherlands government and by royal decree. With the De Ruyter Medal the Kingdom of the Netherlands honors since 1907 the threehundredth birthday of Michiel de Ruyter, one of the most famous admirals in Dutch history. HNLMS ''Tromp'' (F803) (Dutch: "Zr. Ms. ''Tromp''") is the second of the Royal Netherlands Navy. The ship was laid down in 1999, launched in 2001, and commissioned in 2003. The Honorary Medal for Merits toward Museum Collections ( nl, Erepenning voor Verdiensten jegens Openbare Verzamelingen), also known as the Museum Medal ( nl, Museummedaille), is one of the oldest civil decorations of the Netherlands. It was created by royal decree on 26 June 1817 by King William I of the Netherlands. Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter (; 24 March 1607 – 29 April 1676) was a Dutch admiral. Widely celebrated and regarded as one of the most skilled admirals in history, De Ruyter is arguably most famous for his achievements with the Dutch Navy during the Anglo-Dutch Wars. Orders, Decorations, And Medals Of The Netherlands
In the Dutch honours system, most orders are the responsibility of ministers of the Netherlands Government. The house orders, however, are awarded at the discretion of the Dutch monarch alone. Over the centuries, hundreds of medals, decorations for merit or valour and orders of knighthood have been instituted by the successive governments of the Netherlands. The oldest were founded by the counts of Holland. Their successors, the House of Burgundy, founded the famous Order of the Golden Fleece. This order still exists in Spain and in the Austrian imperial House. The Republic of the Seven United Netherlands did not possess an order of knighthood. Instead so called "Beloningspenningen", golden medals on golden chains, were given as gifts to ambassadors and successful admirals.
