Dawn Gan
Yan Liming (; 15 April 1963 – 22 September 2018), better known as Dawn Gan, was a Singaporean '' xinyao'' singer. She was one of the pioneer ''xinyao'' singers in Singapore. Early life and education Gan was born on 15 April 1963 and studied at River Valley High School and National Junior College. Career In 1984, Gan signed a five-year contract with Tony Wong Company as a singer, one of the first two solo ''xinyao'' recording singers. Gan sang the theme song, ''Youth 1 2 3'', for the 1986 Singapore Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) Channel 8's drama ''The Happy Trio''. In September 1986, Tony Wong Company would cease its operations, and had agreed to release Gan from her 5-year contract ahead of the clause which would abrogated the contract if the company did not release a new album for her within a year from her last release. Xinyao
''Xinyao'' () is a genre of songs that is unique to Singapore. It is a contemporary Mandarin vocal genre that emerged and rose to fame in Singapore between the late 1970s to 1980s. ''Xinyao'' songs are composed and sung by Singaporeans and it is an outlet for them to express their thoughts and feelings around themes like friendships or love stories. ''Xinyao'' is a Chinese noun comprising two words: ''Xīn'' (新) which is an abbreviation for Singapore, and ''yáo'' (谣) for song. The extended form is ''Xīnjiāpō gēyáo'' (新加坡歌谣), which simply means "Singapore songs". ''Shin Min Daily News'' () is a Singapore Chinese-language afternoon newspaper currently published by SPH Media Trust. First started on 18 March 1967, by Singapore businessman Liang Runzhi (梁潤之) and the renowned Hong Kong writer Louis Cha as an offshoot of Hong Kong's ''Ming Pao'', it featured exclusive serializations of some of Cha's ''wuxia'' novels in its early days. ''Nanyang Sin-Chew Lianhe Zaobao'' (; literally " Nanyang Sin-Chew Joint Morning Paper"), commonly abbreviated as ''Lianhe Zaobao'' (; literally "Joint Morning Paper"), is the largest Singaporean Chinese-language newspaper with a daily circulation of about 136,900 (print and digital) as of 2021.
