Rockfield Studios
Rockfield Studios is a residential recording studio located in the Wye Valley just outside the village of Rockfield, Monmouthshire, Wales. It was founded in 1963 by brothers Kingsley and Charles Ward. Recording studios Rockfield is a two-studio facility consisting of The Coach House and The Quadrangle. Both studios reside within converted solid-stone farm buildings. Rockfield was one of the world's first recording studios to have living accommodation for clients. The Coach House Constructed in 1968, The Coach House includes a large live area with stone walls, a wooden ceiling, and a Yamaha grand piano. Additionally, it has a stone drum room, an acoustically variable second drum room, and two isolation booths. Bryn Haworth
Bryn Haworth (born 29 July 1948) is a British Christian singer-songwriter, guitarist, and pioneer of Jesus music in mainstream rock. Born in Blackburn, Lancashire, England, he has released some twenty-two albums and several singles since the 1970s, as well as guesting as guitarist on many other albums by rock and folk artists. He continues to tour in the UK, appearing mostly at smaller venues, Christian centres and at prisons. He has also appeared three times at the UK Greenbelt Festival. His chosen instruments include guitar (particularly slide or bottleneck guitar) and mandolin. He recorded sessions for the John Peel show on BBC Radio 1 in 1974, 1975 and 1976, and made two television appearances on BBC Two's ''The Old Grey Whistle Test''. Background This “live” album was tweaked in the studio by Edmunds, who is known for his production perfectionism. ''Riff Raff'' is a 1984 album by the Welsh rock musician Dave Edmunds. The album was his third release for Arista Records (in the UK) and Columbia Records (in the US), following 1983's ''Information''. Overview ''Riff Raff'' continued Edmunds' collaboration with Electric Light Orchestra frontman Jeff Lynne; Lynne produced six tracks on the albums, and wrote three of the songs. The majority of the tracks on ''Riff Raff'' are originals by Lynne, Edmunds, and band member John David. The most notable cover is the aforementioned " Something About You", originally a top-20 hit for the Four Tops in 1965. Edmunds also covered the Paul Brady-penned "Steel Claw" which was originally recorded, with a tighter, more frenetic hard rock arrangement, by Tina Turner for her multi-platinum comeback effort, ''Private Dancer'', released just four months prior. ''Information'' is a 1983 album by Welsh rock musician Dave Edmunds. The album was his second release for Arista Records (in the UK) and Columbia Records (in the US). ''Information'' marked the first time in Edmunds' solo career that he collaborated with an outside producer. Electric Light Orchestra frontman Jeff Lynne produced two songs on the album: the title track, and the Lynne-penned " Slipping Away". The latter would become Edmunds' first American top-40 hit in 13 years (and his last top-40 hit to date), reaching #39 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. John David (musician)
John David Williams (born 19 January 1946 in Cardiff, Wales) is a Welsh bassist and songwriter known equally for his work with Dave Edmunds and for his songwriting. Biography He began his musical career playing drums in his father's dance band Avalon. By 1968 he was playing bass guitar and sang backing vocals in Edmunds' first major group, Love Sculpture, best remembered for their 1968 top ten hit single " Sabre Dance". At that time he used the name John Williams. After Love Sculpture split in 1970 he concentrated on studio and session work, songwriting and engineering, as well as collaborating with Edmunds on his number one single " I Hear You Knocking", playing bass, piano, and percussion. In 1975, David played bass guitar and did some backing vocals on Andy Fairweather Low's album, '' La Booga Rooga''. Graham Parker
Graham Thomas Parker (born 18 November 1950) is an English singer-songwriter, who is best known as the lead singer of the British band Graham Parker & the Rumour. Life and career Early career (1960s–1976) Parker was born in Hackney, East London, in 1950. He was a pupil at Chobham Secondary Modern School in Surrey. After the success of the Beatles, Parker and some other 12/13-year-olds formed the Deepcut Three, soon renamed the Black Rockers. None of the members actually learned to play their instruments, however, and were merely dress-up bands, adopting Beatle haircuts, black jeans and polo neck sweaters. By the time Parker was 15 he was a fan of soul music, especially Otis Redding, and would go to dance clubs in the nearby towns of Woking and Camberley where there was a thriving appreciation of soul music, Motown and ska. Get It (Dave Edmunds Album)
''Get It'' is the third album by Welsh rock musician Dave Edmunds, released in 1977. Some of the songs were performed by an early "trio" version of Rockpile (Edmunds, Nick Lowe and Terry Williams); others (such as "I Knew the Bride" and "Little Darlin'") were recorded by Edmunds solo. Also recorded in these sessions was the non-album Edmunds-Lowe tune "As Lovers Do", which was used as the B-side of both "Here Comes the Weekend" and the later "Crawling from the Wreckage". "New York's a Lonely Town", the B-side of "Where or When" was also recorded during the six-week sessions for the album. Two recordings that appear on ''Get It'' were from much earlier sessions. "Ju Ju Man" was recorded in 1975, while "My Baby Left Me' dated back to 1969, and was performed by Edmunds backed with members of his band Love Sculpture: Mickey Gee, John Williams and Terry Williams. Down By The Jetty
''Down by the Jetty'' is the debut album by English rock band Dr. Feelgood, released in January 1975. The band's Johnny Kidd & the Pirates-influenced originals ("Keep It Out of Sight") appear alongside covers material like " Bonie Moronie" and "Tequila". The album was re-released as a double CD in 2006 (EMI 0946 363951 2 8). Legacy Paul Weller and Bob Geldof have acknowledged the influence of ''Down by the Jetty'', as have Blondie, the Ramones and Richard Hell, who were introduced to the album by Blondie's drummer Clem Burke. In 1976, prior to being signed, Paul Weller's band the Jam demoed a cover of "Cheque Book". ''PXR5'' is the ninth studio album by the English space rock group Hawkwind, released in 1979. It reached No. 59 on the UK album charts. A new remix and surround mix of the album by Steven Wilson was released in 2023 by Atomhenge Records as part of the ''Days Of The Underground'' boxed set. Overview Allmusic referred to ''PXR5'' as "the last in the sequence of brittle, pop-inflected records the band launched with '' Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music''", saying that Hawkwind "both understood and allowed themselves to absorb the energies of new wave" on ''PXR5''. The album was recorded and mixed at Rockfield Studios in January and February 1978.
