Daniel Warren Ketcham (1 May 1867 – 19 July 1935) was an American artillery officer who served with the U.S. Army. Early Years Daniel Ketcham was born in Burns City, Indiana in 1867 to Seth Ketcham and Almira Bernham Ketcham. He attended the U.S. Military Academy and graduated twenty-first in the class of 1890. Burns City, Indiana
Burns City is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Perry Township, Martin County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 114 at the 2020 census. History The town was founded as "Keck's Church" in 1849 by Christian Keck, an early settler. It became known as "Kecksville" ''circa'' 1852. The name was officially changed to Burns City on September 15, 1890. The present name was applied by a railroad engineer whose wife's maiden name was Burns. A post office was established under the name "Keck's Church" in 1849, was renamed Burns City in 1890, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1957. Geography Burns City is bordered to the east by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division. American Expeditionary Forces
The American Expeditionary Forces (A. E. F.) was a formation of the United States Army on the Western Front of World War I. The A. E. F. was established on July 5, 1917, in France under the command of General John J. Pershing. It fought alongside French Army, British Army, Canadian Army, New Zealand Army and Australian Army units against the Imperial German Army. A small number of A. E. F. troops also fought alongside Italian Army units in that same year against the Austro-Hungarian Army. The A. E. F. helped the French Army on the Western Front during the Aisne Offensive (at the Battle of Château-Thierry and Battle of Belleau Wood) in the summer of 1918, and fought its major actions in the Battle of Saint-Mihiel and the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in the latter part of 1918. Joint Expeditionary Base-Fort Story, commonly called simply Fort Story is a sub-installation of Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek–Fort Story, which is operated by the United States Navy. Located in the independent city of Virginia Beach, Virginia at Cape Henry at the entrance of the Chesapeake Bay, it offers a unique combination of features including dunes, beaches, sand, surf, deep-water anchorage, variable tide conditions, maritime forest and open land.
