Daniel R. Fraser
Daniel Robert Fraser (August 26, 1851 – January 12, 1920) was a pioneer businessman and an alderman in Edmonton in the years 1897, 1903-1905 and 1908-1909. Biography Daniel Fraser was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and emigrated to New York and then Canada as a child. He was educated in Huron County, Ontario. He apprenticed as a millwright, joiner, and carpenter before moving to Manitoba in 1874 to work for the Hudson's Bay Company and later McCauley & Jarvis. In 1880 he returned to the Hudson's Bay Company, for whom he built a saw and flour mill in Edmonton and a flour mill in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. He moved to Edmonton in 1881 and operated his own mill under the name D R Fraser & Company Limited before becoming President of Alberta Milling Co., which operated four flour mills, and later Edmonton Pressed Brick Co. Edmonton Town Council
The Edmonton City Council is the governing body of the City of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Edmonton currently has one mayor and twelve city councillors. Elections are held every four years. The most recent was held in 2021, and the next is in 2025. The mayor is elected across the whole city, through the First-past-the-post voting, First Past the Post plurality voting system. Councillors are elected one per Ward (country subdivision), ward, a division of the city, through the First Past the Post plurality voting system. On July 22, 2009, City Council voted to change the electoral system of six wards to a system of 12 wards; each represented by a single councillor. The 1902 municipal election was held December 8, 1902 for the purpose of electing a mayor and three aldermen to sit on the Edmonton Town Council, as well as five public school trustees and five separate school trustees. There were six aldermanic positions on the council at the time, but three of them were already filled: Cornelius Gallagher, Edmund Grierson, and Phillip Heiminck had been elected for two-year terms in 1901, and were still in office. Andrew Agar
Andrew B. Agar (January 9, 1865 – August 13, 1948) was a politician in Alberta, Canada and a municipal councillor in Edmonton. Agar was born in Ontario in 1865. He came to Edmonton and established a hardware business in 1907 with his brother, James, which he ran from then until 1911. He was elected to the Edmonton City Council to a one-year term in the 1908 municipal election, and did not seek re-election at the conclusion of his term. He became the city commissioner for the City of Edmonton in 1911. In 1917, he moved to a farm 6 miles southwest of Edmonton, where he lived up until his retirement in 1938. Thomas Bellamy (politician)
Thomas Bellamy (June 6, 1853 – October 11, 1926) was a politician in Alberta, Canada and a municipal councillor in Edmonton. Bellamy was born at Canada West, which would later be the province of Ontario. The son of an English immigrant, he entered the woodworking industry after finishing school. After returning to farming briefly, he moved to Manitoba where established an agricultural product dealing business and later worked for the Massey Harris agricultural supply company. His employment with that company would bring him to Edmonton where he continued to work for them until he left to start his own business, the Bellamy Company, which manufactured agricultural products, establishing himself as a prominent Edmonton businessperson. Involved with civic affairs upon his arrival in Edmonton, Bellamy would serve terms on the school board, and eventually city council, being first elected in 1895. Robert Lee (Canadian Politician)
Robert Lee (March 10, 1862 – August 5, 1925) was a politician in Alberta, Canada and a mayor of Edmonton. Biography Lee was born in Lanark County, Ontario on March 10, 1862 and graduated from the Dominion Business College in Kingston. He married Annette Wilson, with whom he had a daughter and two sons, in 1897. He served as a member of the Lanark City Council from 1892 until 1898, after which he moved to Edmonton. He was in partnership with John Ross in grain trading, insurance, and loans under the name Ross & Lee until 1902, after which he partnered with W I Crafts in real estate, timber, and coal mining under the name Crafts & Lee (another partner was admitted in 1905 as they became Crafts, Lee & Gallinger).
