Dan Drew (hurler)
Daniel Drew (1863 – 8 July 1923) was an Irish hurler. His championship career with the Cork senior team lasted from 1890 until 1892. Born in Aghabullogue, County Cork in 1863, Drew was educated at the local national school and later worked as a railway guard with the Cork and Muskerry Light Railway. Drew first played competitive hurling with the Aghabullogue club and won his sole county senior championship medal in 1890. This success allowed the club to represent Cork in the inter-county championship and Drew was a key member of the forwards. He won his first All-Ireland medal in 1890. Drew returned to the Cork team in 1892 and, along with his team-mate Pat Buckley, became the first players to win two All-Ireland medals on the field of play. He also won two Munster medals. Drew played his last game for Cork in March 1892. Drew died on 8 July 1923 following a railway accident. Aghabullogue GAA
Aghabullogue GAA are a Gaelic Athletic Association club in County Cork, Ireland. They are affiliated to the Cork GAA, Cork County Board and play in the mid-Cork (Muskerry GAA, Muskerry) division of Cork GAA. Aghabullogue cater for both hurling and Gaelic football. History Aghabullogue have a long tradition of hurling. In 1890, they won the Cork Senior Hurling Championship. By the rules of the GAA at that time, this victory allowed Aghabullogue to go on and represent Cork in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship.This was captained by Dan Lane. They later collected a Munster title following a victory over Kerry GAA, Kerry. There was controversy in the subsequent All-Ireland final when an Aghabullogue men left the field after one of the players had his toe broken by a Wexford GAA, Wexford man's hurley. The Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Co-Op Superstores Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Cork PSHC) is an annual club hurling competition organised by the Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking senior clubs and amalgamated teams in the county of Cork in Ireland, deciding the competition winners through a group and knockout format. Aghabullogue Hurlers
Aghabullogue or Aghabulloge () is a village and parish in the barony of Muskerry East in County Cork, Ireland. It lies around west of Cork City, south of the Boggeragh Mountains and north of the River Lee. The parish of Aghabullogue includes the villages of Aghabullogue, Coachford and Rylane. The civil parish consists of 31 townlands. It has a public house and shop, a national school, community hall and a Roman Catholic church (Saint John's Catholic Church). Saint Olan (or Ólann) is the patron saint of the parish. The 1892 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the sixth staging of the All-Ireland hurling championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1887. The championship began on 30 October 1892 and ended on 26 March 1893. 1890 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The 1890 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the fourth staging of the All-Ireland hurling championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1887. The championship began on 3 August 1890 and ended on 16 November 1890. Dublin were the defending champions, however, they were defeated in the provincial series. Cork won the title, after successfully launching an objection having originally been beaten by Wexford in the final. Teams A total of eleven teams contested the championship, one more than the previous year. The Leinster championship was contested by five teams. Kildare made a return to the championship after a one-year absence, however, they failed to field a team and gave a walkover to their opponents. Pat Buckley (Aghabullogue Hurler)
Pat Buckley was an Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Aghabullogue and was a member of the Cork senior inter-county team from 1890 until 1892. Buckley, together with his team-mate Dan Drew, became the first players to win two All-Ireland winners' medals on the field of play. Playing career Club Buckley played his hurling with his local club in Aghabullogue and enjoyed some success. He won a county senior championship title in 1890 following a 7-3 to 1-1 defeat of Aghada. It remains Aghabullogue's only county final victory. Inter-county Buckley first came to prominence on the inter-county scene with Cork as part of the Aghabullogue selection in 1890. Cork And Muskerry Light Railway
The Cork and Muskerry Light Railway was a narrow gauge railway in County Cork, Ireland. The first part of the railway opened in 1887 and closed in 1934. A major reason for building the railway was to exploit tourist traffic to Blarney Castle. Initial route The Cork and Muskerry Light Railway (CMLR) operated from its own station, the Cork Western Road railway station, in Cork city. The initial lines westwards from Cork to Blarney and Coachford opened in 1887 and 1888 respectively. The railway operated as a roadside tramway, and the locomotives were fitted with cowcatchers. The railway was built close to the south bank of the River Lee until before the station at Leemount.
