Damon Warren "Hutch" Cooper (27 April 1919 – 19 November 1985) was a United States Navy Vice admiral who served in conflicts from the 1940s through the 1970s, including as the Commander, Task Force 77 during the late stages of the Vietnam War. Early life He was born in Elizabethtown, Kentucky on 27 April 1919. He attended Western Kentucky State Teachers College at Bowling Green, Kentucky. Military career He entered the United States Naval Academy in 1937. He was commissioned as an Ensign on 7 February 1941 and posted to . The Commendation Medal is a mid-level United States military decoration presented for sustained acts of heroism or meritorious service. Each branch of the United States Armed Forces issues its own version of the Commendation Medal, with a fifth version existing for acts of joint military service performed under the Department of Defense. The United States Pacific Fleet (USPACFLT) is a theater-level component command of the United States Navy, located in the Pacific Ocean. It provides naval forces to the Indo-Pacific Command.
