Daewon C.I. () or Daewon Culture Industry is a South Korean publisher known for releasing domestic and imported comics, children's books, and light novels. It was founded in 1991 and is a subsidiary of Daewon Media. In 2018, Daewon C.I., along with and Haksan Publishing, made up 49 percent of the print comic book market in South Korea. History Daewon C.I. was founded in 1991 as the publishing arm of Daewon Media. Its initial publication was the ''Comic Champ'' magazine in December of that year. In 1994, they launched ''Young Champ'', and followed with two additional monthly magazines in 1995, which are no longer in print. Haruhi Suzumiya (light Novels)
is a Japanese light novel series written by Nagaru Tanigawa and illustrated by Noizi Ito. It was first published in 2003 by Kadokawa Shoten in Japan with the novel ''The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya'', and has since been followed by 11 additional novel volumes, an anime television series adaptation produced by Kyoto Animation, four manga series, an animated film, two original net animation series and several video games. Newtype
is a monthly magazine originating from Japan covering anime and, to a lesser extent, manga, voice actors, science fiction, , and video games. It was launched by publishing company Kadokawa Shoten on March 8, 1985, and has since been released in Japan on the 10th of every month. ''Newtype Korea'' was formerly published in South Korea. Spin-off publications of ''Newtype'' also exist in Japan, such as ''Newtype Hero'' and ''Newtype the Live'', which are dedicated to and ''NewWORDS'', which is geared toward a more adult market, as well as numerous limited-run versions such as ''Clamp Newtype''. Voices Of A Distant Star
is a Japanese science fiction original video animation (OVA) short film created and animated by Makoto Shinkai. It follows the lives of two close childhood friends, a boy and a girl, who are separated when the girl is sent into space to fight in a war against aliens. As the 15-year-old girl goes deeper and deeper into space, the texts she sends take longer to reach the Earth; the film simultaneously follows her battles and the boy's life as he receives her texts over the years. The OVA premiered in Japan in February 2002 in an advance screening. It was followed by two DVD releases on April 19 and October 6, 2002. ASCII Media Works published 27 novels from November 2002 to November 2023 under their Dengeki Bunko imprint. is a Japanese light novel series written by Hideyuki Kurata, published under Shueisha's '' Super Dash Bunko'' imprint. ''Read or Die'' follows Yomiko Readman, codename "The Paper", an agent for the (fictional) Special Operations Division of the British Library. There are twelve ''Read or Die'' novels, though in June 2016, it was announced via Twitter that a thirteenth (and final) volume was set to be released. Kurata confessed in a 2021 interview with long-time collaborator Masashi Ishihama (who served as animation director of the OVA and TV series) that to date, he has not continued with the novel project and has no immediate plans to do so.
