Dagny (name)
Dagny is a Scandinavian feminine given name of Norwegian origin. Alternate forms include Dagna, Dagne and the Latvian form Dagnija. It is derived from the combination of the Old Norse words 'day' and 'new'. While appearing in Norse mythology, it had virtually fallen out of use for centuries, and was revived at the second half of the 19th century. This is attributed either to a character of that name in Henrik Ibsen’s 1857 play " The Vikings of Helgeland" or more likely to the popularity of '' Dagny'', a Scandinavian women's magazine founded in 1886. In any case, it was at its most common in Scandinavia in the early to mid 20th century. Dagny Juel
Dagny Juel-Przybyszewska (8 June 1867 – 5 June 1901) was a Norwegian writer, famous for her liaisons with various prominent artists, and for the dramatic circumstances of her death. She was the model for some of Edvard Munch's paintings. She had relationships with Munch and briefly with Swedish playwright and painter August Strindberg. In 1893, she married the Polish writer Stanisław Przybyszewski. Together they had two children. She was shot in a hotel room in Tbilisi, Georgia in 1901, three days before her thirty-fourth birthday. Dagny Tande Lid (25 May 1903 – 28 January 1998) was a Norwegian painter, illustrator and poet. She is most noted for her drawings of plants and is known for her own illustrated poetry collections and for her botanical illustrations of Norwegian postage stamps. Background Dagny Tande was born May 25, 1903, in Nissedal parish in Telemark, Norway. Her parents were Johan Didrik Tande (1869–1938) and Thea Gertine Mortensen (1863–1951). Dagny Servaes (10 March 1894 – 10 July 1961) was a German-Austrian stage and film actress. In the theatre she appeared in the productions of Max ReinhardtStyan p.89 and Berthold Brecht.
