DWWR 15
Dublin, Wicklow and Wexford Railway (DW&WR) 15 of 1860 was the first of a number of 0-4-2 tender locomotives built by Sharp Stewart who were the only supplier of the 0-4-2 type to the DW&WR. In total 12 were supplied in batches in 1860, 1864 and 1876. Locomotives other than Nos. 15, 16 and possibly 37 differed, being about two tons heavier with cylinders, driving wheels of and other differences giving a tractive effort of . The 0-4-2 was considered a mixed-traffic type. In practice the DW&WR mostly employed the locomotives with the higher tractive effort on main line freight and the others on mixed passenger/freight trains. The 0-4-2s began to be made obsolete by the introduction of types such as the 0-6-0 and 2-6-0 in 1895, 1900 and 1922. Sharp, Stewart And Company
Sharp, Stewart and Company was a steam locomotive manufacturer, initially located in Manchester, England. The company was formed in 1843 upon the demise of Sharp, Roberts & Co.. It moved to Glasgow, Scotland, in 1888, eventually amalgamating with two other Glaswegian locomotive manufacturers to form the North British Locomotive Company. Early days Iron merchant Thomas Sharp and mechanical engineer Richard Roberts first formed a partnership, Sharp, Roberts & Co. (about which, see also company section in article on Roberts), to manufacture textile machinery and machine tools. They opened the Atlas Works in Manchester in 1828. DSER 15 And 16
The Dublin and South Eastern Railway 15 and 16 were a pair of 2-6-0 steam locomotives which were built for the heavy goods (freight) traffic on the Dublin to Wexford main line of the Dublin and South Eastern Railway (DSER). The two locomotives were built by Beyer, Peacock and Company at their Gorton Foundry in Manchester. On account of the risk of damage when new (during the Irish Civil War period of 1921–1922), both examples were initially sent to Belfast for safekeeping. They were stored by the Great Northern Railway (Ireland) at Adelaide yard until 1923, when they were returned to the DSER. The locos were withdrawn in the early 1960s. Inchicore railway works, also known locally as 'Inchicore' or 'The Works', was founded by the Great Southern and Western Railway in 1846 and emerged to become the major engineering centre for railways in Ireland. Dublin, Wicklow and Wexford Railway (DW&WR) 17 (''Wicklow'') 0-6-0 was built was in 1899 at Grand Canal Street railway works and was followed by the slightly larger No. 36 (''Wexford'') in 1901. History No. 17 certainly contained some part from the withdrawn 0-4-2 previously having the same number. No. 36 had larger cylinders and the Dublin and South Eastern Railway (DSER) trialled it with a Phoenix superheater between 1911 and 1915. Dublin, Wicklow and Wexford Railway (DW&WR) 50 and 51 were two 0-6-0 tender locomotives built in 1891 at Vulcan Works and were named ''Arklow'' and ''New Ross'' respectively. These were the first the 0-6-0 wheel configuration to be purchased by the DW&WR. The DW&WR's own Grand Canal Street were to construct two more in 1899/1900 and to follow that with a design for five more from 1904. The DW&WR became the Dublin and South Eastern Railway (DSER) from the end of 1906. Under the locomotive engineer R.
