DV Hasselt
Dames Volleybal Hasselt is a women's volleyball team from Hasselt, Belgium. The club played in Ere Divisie, after becoming champions in the 2008-09 season and beating Volley De Haan after playoffs. DV Hasselt had already been active at the highest level, from 1993 to 1996. At the end of the 2010-11 season, the club announced to retire their Ere Divisie team after several players had chosen to sign for other teams. DV Hasselt will continue their activities with their lower league teams. Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. The complete set of rules is extensive, but play essentially proceeds as follows: a player on one of the teams begins a 'rally' by serving the ball (tossing or releasing it and then hitting it with a hand or arm), from behind the back boundary line of the court, over the net, and into the receiving team's court. It seems to have been a diminutive form originally (''-ke'' is one of the most common diminutive suffices in West Frisian), which developed from the historic form Auwe or Auwen. According to onomatologist Rienk de Haan, Auwe was a very reduced form of certain Germanic names, possibly starting with '' Alf-'' (meaning "elf", "supernatural" or "nature spirit"). Hasselt (, , ; la, Hasseletum, Hasselatum) is a Belgian city and municipality, and capital and largest city of the province of Limburg in the Flemish Region of Belgium.
