War crimes in Afghanistan covers the period of conflict from 1979 to the present. Starting with the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, 40 years of civil war in various forms has wracked Afghanistan. War crimes have been committed by all sides. The Afghan conflict (; ) is a term that refers to the series of events that have kept Afghanistan in a near-continuous state of armed conflict since the 1970s. Early instability followed the collapse of the Kingdom of Afghanistan in the largely non-violent 1973 coup d'état, which deposed Afghan monarch Mohammad Zahir Shah , ending his 40-year-long reign. Mundarakht Massacre
From July 4 to July 6, 2021, the Taliban carried out a series of killings in the village of Mundarakht, situated in the Ghazni Province of Afghanistan, targeting Hazara men. The killings were condemned and shock was expressed at the savagery of killings, especially when it was revealed that the Taliban used torture in order to kill the men. Background Hazaras have been a persecuted minority in Afghanistan since the 1800s from the reign of Abdur Rahman Khan and the 1888–1893 Hazara uprisings. Since then, the Hazara community has faced constant persecution since then, including the 21st century. Malestan District
Malistan or Malestan (), is a district in Ghazni province, Afghanistan. Its population, which is 100% Hazara, was estimated at 350,000 in 2009. The district capital is Mir Adina. History During the period of Dost Mohammad Khan in the 1830s, the area operated as part of the semi-autonomous area of Hazarajat. In 1949, the area was separated from Jaghori District. During the Soviet occupation, Maoist resistance groups were particularly active. Spin Boldak () is a city in Kandahar Province of Afghanistan, serving as the capital of Spin Boldak District. Its current mayor is Lutfullah Latifi. Spin Boldak sits along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. It is linked by a highway with the city of Kandahar to the north, and with Chaman and Quetta in Pakistan to the south.
