Stokke is a village in Sandefjord Municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. The village is located about to the northeast of the Sandefjord (town), city of Sandefjord and about to the southwest of the Tønsberg (town), city of Tønsberg. The village of Melsomvik and the Tønsbergfjorden lie about to the east of Stokke. The village has a population (2022) of 4,221 and a population density of . Stokke was the administrative centre of the old Stokke, Stokke Municipality which existed from 1838 until its dissolution on 1 January 2017. The European route E18 highway passes to the northwest of the village. The Vestfoldbanen railway line passes through the village, stopping at the Stokke Station. Stokke Church
Stokke Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Sandefjord Municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. It is located in the village of Stokke. It is the church for the Stokke parish which is part of the Sandefjord prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Tunsberg. The brown brick church was built in a long church design in 1886 using plans drawn up by the architect Jacob Wilhelm Nordan. The church seats about 550 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1329, but the church was not built that year. The first church in Stokke was a Romanesque stone church with a rectangular nave and a smaller rectangular chancel that was likely built during the 12th century. Vear is a village in Tønsberg Municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. The village is located along the border with Sandefjord Municipality and along the Tønsbergfjorden, about to the southwest of the city of Tønsberg and about to the southeast of the village of Sem. List Of Former Municipalities Of Norway
This is a list of former municipalities of Norway, i.e. municipalities that no longer exist. When the local council system was introduced in Norway in 1837-38, the country had 392 municipalities. By 1958, the number had grown to a total of 744 rural municipalities, 64 city municipalities as well as a small number of small seaports with '' ladested'' status. A committee led by Nikolai Schei, formed in 1946 to examine the situation, proposed hundreds of mergers to reduce the number of municipalities and improve the quality of local administration. Most of the mergers were carried out, albeit to significant popular protest. By 1966, most of the mergers had been carried out and there were only 470 municipalities remaining. Vestfold () is a county and a current electoral district in Norway. Located on the western shore of the Oslofjord, it borders Buskerud and Telemark counties.
