Middlesbrough Council is a unitary authority in North Yorkshire, England. Until 1 April 1996 it was a non-metropolitan district in Cleveland. Since 2002 it has also had a directly elected mayor. Middlesbrough Council
Middlesbrough Council, formerly Middlesbrough Borough Council, is the unitary authority covering the Borough of Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, England. Following the 2023 local elections, Labour has held majority control of the council, which meets at the Town Hall. It is led by the directly-elected Mayor of Middlesbrough ( Chris Cooke since 2023). The council is a member of the Tees Valley Combined Authority. History The town of Middlesbrough had been incorporated as a municipal borough in 1853. When elected county councils were established in 1889 it was considered large enough to provide its own county-level services, and so it was made a county borough, independent from the new North Riding County Council, whilst remaining part of the North Riding of Yorkshire for ceremonial purposes. Matt Storey is a British Labour Party politician who has served as the Cleveland Police and Crime Commissioner since 2024. He defeated Steve Turner of the Conservative Party, the incumbent since 2021. Jacob Young (politician)
Jacob Young (born 2 February 1993) is a former British Conservative Party politician and served as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Levelling Up from 18 September 2023, until losing his seat in July 2024. He previously served as Assistant Government Whip between September 2022 and September 2023. He was elected as MP for Redcar at the 2019 general election. He was the first Conservative MP to represent the constituency. ''The Northern Echo'' is a regional daily morning newspaper based in the town of Darlington in North East England, serving mainly southern County Durham and northern Yorkshire. The 2023 Middlesbrough Borough Council election took place on 4 May 2023 to elect all 46 members of Middlesbrough Council and the directly-elected Mayor of Middlesbrough.
