Matt Storey is a British Labour Party politician who has served as the Cleveland Police and Crime Commissioner since 2024. He defeated Steve Turner of the Conservative Party, the incumbent since 2021. Stephen Mark Turner (born October 1971) is a British Conservative Party politician who served as the Cleveland Police and Crime Commissioner from 2021 to 2024. He was elected on 13 May 2021, for the Conservative Party. He was replaced by Matthew Stephen Storey in May 2024. Background Prior to being elected as PCC for Cleveland, Steve Turner was the chief of staff for two MPs. He earlier worked for Safeway as a manager, but resigned in the early 1990s after accepting a police caution for handling stolen goods. Elections of police and crime commissioners in England and Wales were held on 6 May 2021, on the same day as the Senedd election in Wales and the local elections in England. This was the third time police and crime commissioner elections have been held (the two previous occasions were in 2012 and 2016). Middlesbrough Council, formerly Middlesbrough Borough Council, is the unitary authority covering the Borough of Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, England.
