The View (band)
The View are a Scottish indie rock band. They incorporate various styles such as punk, pop, alternative rock, and folk in their music. They are best known for their 2007 single " Same Jeans" which reached number 3 on the UK Singles Chart. The band have released five studio albums since their platinum selling debut '' Hats Off to the Buskers'', which topped the UK Albums Chart in January 2007 and was nominated for the 2007 Mercury Music Prize. Despite never matching this early success, they enjoy a large fanbase in their native Scotland with albums regularly topping the Scottish Albums Chart. The band also hold a reputation for their live performances with regularly sold-out tours in Scotland. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". 1965 Records is a London-based subsidiary record label of SonyBMG. Formed in 2006, the label was founded by James Endeacott (formerly of Rough Trade Records), who first signed The Libertines. The label features bands who are primarily indie rock/ pop, and are best known for signing Dundee based four-piece The View. History 1965 Records took their name from the year of Endeacott's birth, as well as his favourite year for music. Originating in May 2006, the company initially releasing five separate limited edition 7-inch vinyl singles by Jack Afro, Billie the Vision & the Dancers, Pizzy Yelliot, The Book of Lists and Jahcoozi in the first three months of its creation between May and July. The View EP
''The View EP'' is a self-titled EP by the View, released in March 2006. It is the first official release by the band. The EP was pressed by Dundee label Two Thumbs, and was limited to just 2000 copies. It was made available to the public through the band's on-line forums, and sold out within a matter of weeks. Due to the CD having no official distribution, the exact release date of the EP is unknown. In an interview with ''The Courier'' on 20 January 2006, Grant Dickson (of Two Thumbs) stated that "The View EP will be out sometime near the end of next month". Copies of the EP were first made available through Two Thumbs' forum on 15 March 2006. Three tracks from the EP, "Comin Down", "Street Lights" and "Face for the Radio", would later appear on the band's debut album, '' Hats Off to the Buskers''.
