Gonzalo Curiel Barba (commonly Gonzalo Curiel; 10 January 1904 – 4 July 1958) was a Mexican film composer.Wood p.89 He was active during the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. Life Early life Gonzalo Curiel was born in Guadalajara, Mexico to Juan N. Curiel and María de Jesús Barba Riestra. Curiel had 2 siblings, Juan Luis Curiel Barba, and María Elisa Curiel Barba. Curiel learned many instruments at a young age, was taught piano at 6, and learned guitar and the violin. However, after a 5-year stay in Los Angeles to escape the Mexican Revolution from 1917 to 1922 while studying music under Zez Confrey, Curiel unwillingly studied in medicine due to the pressure of his father, but by 1927 Curiel had stopped studying medicine to start a career as a pianist. Henri Curiel
Henri Curiel (13 September 1914 – 4 May 1978) was a left-wing political activist in Egypt and France. Born in Egypt, Curiel led the communist Democratic Movement for National Liberation until he was expelled from the country in 1950. Settling in France, Curiel aided the Algerian Front de Libération Nationale and other national liberation causes, including in South Africa and Latin America. In 1978 Curiel was assassinated in Paris; his murderer has never been identified. Biography Early life and family Curiel was born in Cairo to an Italian Sephardic family. Eugenio Curiel
Eugenio Curiel (11 December 1912 – 24 February 1945) was an Italian-Jewish physicist, a prominent figure of the Italian resistance movement. He was awarded a gold medal (posthumously) for military valour. Life Eugenio Curiel was the first of four children of a Jewish family of comfortable circumstances. His father, Giulio Curiel, was an engineer in the San Marco workshops of Trieste, and his mother, Lucia (née Limentani), was the sister of the Florentine philosopher, Ludovico "Ludo" Limentani. After graduation from high school in 1929, he studied engineering for two years at the University of Florence. In 1931, he enrolled at the Politecnico di Milano University, but after a few months he returned to Florence, where he took up theoretical physics and lodged with his uncle, Ludovico, who taught moral philosophy at that university. César Curiel
César Curiel (born October 12, 1949) is a retired Mexican ''Luchador'' or professional wrestler who was active in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Curiel has three sons who are currently wrestling, Neutron, Steel Man and Cat Man. Early in Curiel's career, on December 25, 1979, he was involved in the death of wrestler José Vincent Ramos Estrada, known to the wrestling world under the ring name Sangre India. Curiel was teaming with El Vengador while Sangre India was teaming with Leo Lopez. During the match Curiel executed a drop kick, a move that supposed to knocked Sangre India out of the ring to the floor. During the fall to the floor Estrada's head and neck struck the apron before he tumbled uncontrollably to the ground. Estrada died shortly after the fall. David Curiel
Don David Curiel (11 May 1594 – 4 October 1666), alias Lopo Ramirez, was a Sephardi Jewish merchant. Early life and education David Curiel was the son of Abraham Curiel and the brother of Jacob Curiel. He was sent to Heidelberg University in Heidelberg, Germany. Diplomatic career In Amsterdam, David Curiel served as Agent to the Spanish Crown as well as being engaged in the import business of jewellery and gunpowder across Europe. He was a financier of the Spanish delegation at the Peace of Westphalia. Curiel was perhaps the most prominent member of Amsterdam's Sephardi community and was a generous patron of Hebrew scholarship. Curiel de Duero is a municipality located in the province of Valladolid, Castile and León, Spain. It covers an area of 18,75 km2, has a population of 134 inhabitants, yielding a density of 6,93 inhabitants/km2. It belongs to the Valle del Cuco and the county (Spanish: Comarca) of Campo de Peñafiel. The municipalities of San Llorente, Corrales de Duero, Valdearcos de la Vega, and Bocos de Duero also belong to the Valle del Cuco. Roturas, that borders north to Curiel De Duero, historically also belonged to Curiel, but has in modern times not been included into the Valle del Cuco county. Abraham Curiel (1545-1609), alias Jeronimo Nunes Ramires, was a physician and the son of the wealthy merchant Jacob Curiel of Coimbra of Coimbra. Curiel is described in several sources as "one of the greatest doctors of his time." Education Abraham Curiel was born to Jacob Curiel of Coimbra and was sent to be educated at the University of Coimbra in Coimbra, Portugal between 1562 and 1570. Marcos Curiel (born September 9, 1974) is the lead guitarist of rock bands P.O.D., The Accident Experiment and Daylight Division. Curiel was born in San Diego, California, in 1974 and is of Mexican descent. He grew up in the neighboring city of Chula Vista, where he graduated from Bonita Vista High School in 1992. Curiel started P.O.D. that year, along with friend Noah "Wuv" Bernardo. The band started building a strong local fanbase, releasing several albums independently. Augusta Cornelia Paulina Curiel (1873–1937) was a Surinamese photographer. She and her sister created an important record of life in the early twentieth century. Freddy Curiel (born November 11, 1974) is an American professional boxer. Curiel was born in La Vega, Dominican Republic and was a contestant on the ESPN reality show, Contender Season 2.
