Cumans
The Cumans or Kumans were a Turkic people, Turkic nomadic people from Central Asia comprising the western branch of the Cumania, Cuman–Kipchak confederation who spoke the Cuman language. They are referred to as Polovtsians (''Polovtsy'') in Rus' chronicles, as "Cumans" in Western sources, and as "Kipchaks" in Eastern sources. Related to the Pecheneg, they inhabited a shifting area north of the Black Sea and along the Volga River known as Cumania, from which the Cuman–Kipchaks meddled in the politics of the Caucasus and the Khwarazmian Empire. The Cumans were fierce and formidable nomadic warriors of the Eurasian Steppe who exerted an enduring influence on the medieval Balkans. They were numerous, culturally sophisticated, and militarily powerful. Luca Cumani
Luca Matteo Cumani (born 7 April 1949, in Milan, Italy) is an Italian thoroughbred horse trainer and breeder. He trained at Bedford House Stables in Newmarket from 1976 to 2019. He has trained a multitude of high-profile horses, including seven Classic race winners, two Epsom Derby winners in Kahyasi (1988) and High-Rise (1998), as well as a Breeders' Cup Mile winner in Barathea (1994). Early life and family Cumani was born on 7 April 1949, in Milan, Italy. As the son of champion amateur jockey Elena and champion trainer Sergio Cumani, horseracing has always been in his blood. He followed in their footsteps, emulating first his mother and then his father. Cumani is the father of Francesca Cumani who is the co-presenter of ITV's racing coverage in the UK. Premio Elena E Sergio Cumani
The Premio Elena e Sergio Cumani is a Group 3 flat horse race in Italy open to thoroughbred fillies and mares aged three years or older. It is run at Milan over a distance of 1,600 metres (about 1 mile), and it is scheduled to take place each year in September or October. The event is named in memory of Sergio Cumani, a ten-time champion trainer in Italy, and his wife Elena. It was formerly known as the Premio Bagutta, and for several years it was called the Premio Bagutta Memorial Sergio Cumani before being renamed the Premio Sergio Cumani. Elena Cumani's name was added to the title from the 2015 running. Francesca Cumani
Francesca Cumani is a horse racing presenter working for ''ITV Racing'' and ''Nine's Wide World of Sports''. She has previously been part of the coverage of the Melbourne Cup with Seven Network and 10 Sport. Education Cumani was educated at Tudor Hall School, a boarding and day independent school for girls, between the village of Bloxham and the market town of Banbury, in Oxfordshire. She left the school in 2001. Following school, Cumani attended the University of Bristol, from which she graduated with a degree in French and Spanish. Career After attending university Cumani worked in the family business of training and breeding race horses. After taking horses to Australia on a trip, she was offered an opportunity to be a guest presenter on Australia's Channel 7's horse racing broadcast.
