Cuanhama
Cuanhama, also known as Kwanhama, is a municipality in Cunene Province, Angola. Cuanhama occupies 20,255 square kilometers and has 374,529 inhabitants . It is bordered to the north by the municipality of Cuvelai, east by the municipality of Menongue, the south by the municipality of Namacunde, and west by the municipality of Ombadja. Ondjiva, the administrative capital of Cunene Province, is located in Cuanhama. Ondjiva
Ondjiva, formerly Vila Pereira d'Eça, is a town, with a population of 121,537 (2014), and a commune in the municipality of Cuanhama, province of Cunene, Angola. It is also the administrative capital of Cunene Province and is located at the extreme south of the country, about from the border with Namibia. It was traditionally the seat of the Ovambo king of the Oukwanyama tribe. Ondjiva was greatly affected by the Angolan Civil War (1975-2002). History Mission station The Ondjiva mission station was established first in 1891 by Friedrich Meisenholl and August Wulfhorst of the Rhenish Mission Society, and with the help of Friedrich Bernsmann and with the permission of King Weyulu Hedimbi. Cunene Province
Cunene is a province of Angola. It has an area of 87,342 km2 and a population of 990,087 in 2014. Ondjiva is the capital of the province; it was previously known as Vila Pereira d’Eça. Ondjiva is the only city in this province with the distance from Ondjiva to Luanda is 1424 km and to Lubango is 415 km. The Cunene River gave its name to the province. Cunene lies north of the Cunene River, which forms the border between Angola and Namibia. Cunene is traversed by the northwesterly line of equal latitude and longitude. Angola is divided into twenty-one provinces, known in Portuguese language, Portuguese as ''províncias''. On 14 August 2024, Angola's National Assembly (Angola), National Assembly approved a law to create three new provinces: * Cuando Cubango Province was divided into Cuando Province and Cubango Province; * Icolo e Bengo Province was separated from Luanda Province; and * Moxico Leste Province was separated from Moxico Province. Menongue
Menongue, formerly Serpa Pinto, is a Municipalities of Angola, municipality and the Capital city, capital of Cubango Province in Angola. The municipality had a population of 320,914 in 2014. It is one of the four municipalities in Angola whose inhabitants are predominantly Mbunda people, Mbunda. Menongue is the current Railhead, terminus of the Moçâmedes Railway, from Moçâmedes, and also home of the small Menongue Airport.
