Crowell Willson (Upper Canada)
Crowell Willson (September 17, 1762 – August 11, 1832) was a farmer and political figure in Upper Canada. He was born in Sussex County, New Jersey in 1762, the son of Sarah Crowell and Benjamin Willson(**), a United Empire Loyalist. Willson married Hannah Crane in 1783. He settled in Bertie Township in Upper Canada in 1787 and later moved to Crowland Township in 1801. In 1800, he was named justice of the peace in the Niagara District. He was elected to the 5th Parliament of Upper Canada in the 4th riding of Lincoln County in 1808. Willson's sister Sarah married John Fanning, also a politician in Upper Canada He died in Crowland Township in 1832. Upper Canada
The Province of Upper Canada (french: link=no, province du Haut-Canada) was a part of British Canada established in 1791 by the Kingdom of Great Britain, to govern the central third of the lands in British North America, formerly part of the Province of Quebec since 1763. Upper Canada included all of modern-day Southern Ontario and all those areas of Northern Ontario in the which had formed part of New France, essentially the watersheds of the Ottawa River or Lakes Huron and Superior, excluding any lands within the watershed of Hudson Bay. The "upper" prefix in the name reflects its geographic position along the Great Lakes, mostly above the headwaters of the Saint Lawrence River, contrasted with Lower Canada (present-day Quebec) to the northeast. United Empire Loyalist
United Empire Loyalists (or simply Loyalists) is an honorific title which was first given by the 1st Lord Dorchester, the Governor of Quebec, and Governor General of The Canadas, to American Loyalists who resettled in British North America during or after the American Revolution. At the time, the demonym ''Canadian'' or ''Canadien'' was used to refer to the indigenous First Nations groups and the descendants of New France settlers inhabiting the Province of Quebec. They settled primarily in Nova Scotia and the Province of Quebec. The influx of loyalist settlers resulted in the creation of several new colonies. In 1784, New Brunswick was partitioned from the Colony of Nova Scotia after significant loyalist resettlement around the Bay of Fundy. Fort Erie is a town on the Niagara River in the Niagara Region, Ontario, Canada. It is directly across the river from Buffalo, New York, and is the site of Old Fort Erie which played a prominent role in the War of 1812. Lincoln County, Ontario
Lincoln County is a historic county in the Canadian province of Ontario. The county was formed in 1792. In 1845, the southern portion of Lincoln County was separated to form Welland County. In some census and election records from the late 19th century, the townships of Caistor and Gainsborough (which can be seen on the map below) were enumerated as part of Monck County, while Grantham and Niagara Townships were enumerated as part of Niagara County. However, neither Monck nor Niagara ever existed as incorporated municipal counties, but rather as electoral districts. John Fanning (before 1781 – January 19, 1813) was a farmer, innkeeper, stagecoach operator and political figure in Upper Canada. He represented the 4th riding of Lincoln in the Legislative Assembly of Upper Canada from 1812 to 1813. Born in the Thirteen Colonies, Fanning came to Upper Canada from South Carolina around 1781. He married Sarah Willson, the sister of Crowell Willson. The Continental Army was the army of the United Colonies (the Thirteen Colonies) in the Revolutionary-era United States.
