Crossroads Plaza (Utah)
Crossroads Plaza was a shopping mall in Downtown Salt Lake City, downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, United States that operated from 1980 to 2007, before being demolished to make way for City Creek Center mall. The mall was developed by a consortium, called Crossroads Plaza Associates. In 2003, the mall was purchased by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), which also owned the neighboring ZCMI Center Mall. The church replaced both malls with City Creek Center to prevent urban decay near its downtown headquarters (including Temple Square). Ted Wilson (mayor)
Ted Lewis Wilson (born May 18, 1939) is an American politician who served as the 30th mayor of Salt Lake City from 1976 until July 1985. He won three elections. Wilson resigned during his third term to become the director of the Hinckley Institute of Politics at the University of Utah where he held an adjunct assistant professorship of Political Science. His terms were noted by an election in May, 1979 to change the five member commission form of government to a mayor/council form. This initiative was created by a city scandal involving the take-over of the city personnel department by the chief of police. Other highlights of Wilson's administration included re-construction of the Salt Lake City International Airport, re-building the city's sewage treatment plant, re-tooling the water system, and expanding the green space of the city's parks department. The Gateway (Salt Lake City)
The Gateway is a large, open-air retail, residential, and office complex in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. It is centered on the historic Salt Lake City Union Pacific Depot, Union Pacific Depot on the west side of Downtown Salt Lake City between 50 North and 200 South streets and between 400 and 500 West streets. Rio Grande Street has been the site of many special events and becomes a one-way street and heads north through the center. The center has featured as many as 89 outlets, but recent changes have allowed the center to provide new retail shopping experiences and become more of a social gathering place centered on dining and nightlife. Marriott Downtown At City Creek Hotel
Salt Lake Marriott Downtown at City Creek is a Marriott International operated hotel located at City Creek Center in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. The hotel was opened on October 15, 1981 (with a grand opening on October 22), and was originally connected to Crossroads Plaza mall. In the late 2000s, the hotel underwent a name change and a multimillion-dollar renovation when Crossroads Plaza was razed and replaced with City Creek Center. During the 2002 Winter Olympics, the west side of the building had a full size wrap with the image of an athlete. Weinstock's, originally Weinstock, Lubin, and Co., was an American department store chain headquartered in Sacramento, California. It was founded by Harris Weinstock and his half-brother, David Lubin. The chain was purchased by Hale's in 1949, becoming part of Broadway-Hale Stores, later Carter Hawley Hale. In 1978, Weinstock's expanded into Utah by rebranding its sister chain The Broadway's location at Fashion Place in Murray into that name, with two stores later in Ogden and Salt Lake City. Carl Christian Amussen
Carl Christian Amussen (May 20, 1825 – October 29, 1902), also referred to as Carl Christian Asmussen, and with Carl at times spelled Karl, was Utah's first jeweler. Karl Amussen, the third son of Danish sea captain Karl Asmussen and his wife Petra Asmussen née Johansen, was born in Køge, Zealand just outside Copenhagen, Denmark on May 20, 1825. Not wishing to follow in his ancestor's footsteps, Amussen apprenticed as a watchmaker, jeweler and dentist. His skill in jewelry-making was so great that he spent some time as court jeweler to the Czar of Russia. Additionally he was involved in that trade in Great Britain, Russia and Australia and circumnavigated the globe twice over the course of his lifetime. In 1857 Amussen moved to Christchurch, New Zealand where he opened a jewelry store.
