Cristóbal Ortega
Cristóbal Ortega Martínez (born 25 July 1956) is a Mexican former professional footballer who played for América in the Mexican Primera División from 1974 to 1992. He played as a midfielder. He also played for Mexico's national team, including playing in the World Cups of 1978 and 1986 - he earned 24 caps in his international career. Club career On 5 October 1974, Cristóbal Ortega made his debut for Club América against Ciudad Madero. In his Primera Liga debut on 8 June 1975, Ortega scored his first goal against Veracruz - so began an 18-year career in which he remained in the Club América midfield. Club América won league titles in the seasons 75-76, 83-84, 84-85, Prode 85, 87-88 and 88-89. The club won three Supercups, in 1976, 1988–89; three CONCACAF Cup titles in 1978, 1987, and 1991; and the Interamerican Cup in 1991. Ortega retired in the middle of the 1991-92 season. CONCACAF Championship
The CONCACAF Championship was an association football tournament that took place between 1963 and 1989. The competition is sometimes referred to as CONCACAF Campeonato de Naciones. The first Championship took place in 1963 and was CONCACAF's first organized tournament for national teams. The competition retained its tournament format and was played on a biennial basis for a decade. In 1973 the tournament became the qualifying tournament for the FIFA World Cup and was played on a quadrennial basis. The CONCACAF trophy was given to the team that ranked highest in the qualifying group. In 1985 and 1989, there was no host nation for the competition. 1977 Copa Interamericana
The 1977 Copa Interamericana was a two-legged football match contested between 1977 Copa Libertadores champion Boca Juniors and 1977 CONCACAF Champions' Cup champion Club América. It was the 6th edition of the competition. Organized by the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) and Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol (CONMEBOL), the 1977 edition was played between March and April 1978. In the first leg, held in La Bombonera in Buenos Aires, Boca Juniors won 3–0. In the second leg, held in Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, América beat Boca Juniors 1–0. Despite Boca Juniors had a goal difference of 3–1, it was not taken into account and a playoff match had to be played. The Copa Interamericana ( en, Interamerican Cup) was an annual club football competition contested between a representative from North America (CONCACAF) and South America ( CONMEBOL). Established in 1969, it was discontinued in 1998 after CONCACAF clubs, particularly those from Mexico, began participating in CONMEBOL competitions. The competition was intended to be contested between the winners of the North American CONCACAF Champions Cup and the South American Copa Libertadores tournaments, although the participants varied at times. The competition was usually contested over a two legged tie, with a playoff or penalty kicks if necessary. However, it was common for several consecutive editions to go unheld.
