Cripps Health Centre
Cripps Health Centre is the base for the University of Nottingham Health Service (UNHS). Its new building, opened in 2018, is the largest single site general practice health centre in the United Kingdom. About 45,000 patients are registered there and there are 50 staff. The Cripps Foundation, founded by Sir Humphrey Cripps donated £9 million to finance the rebuilding of the centre. The previous, smaller, building opened in 1969 and had 6,000 students and staff registered. Overview The centre was designed by CPMG Architects and Arup Group with not only clinical consulting rooms, minor operations suites and a patient observation bay, but physiotherapy areas, and a dental treatment surgery, pharmacy and space for the university mental health advisory service as well as the usual training rooms and offices. Humphrey Cripps
Sir Cyril Humphrey Cripps (2 October 1915 – 14 April 2000) was an English businessman and a philanthropist. Humphrey Cripps was educated at Northampton School For Boys and studied Natural Sciences at St John's College, Cambridge. He joined the family firm, Pianoforte Supplies Limited, started by his father in 1919 to make the metal components of pianos (the firm grew into a major supplier of metal fittings for other trades, especially the motor industry). Cripps became Managing Director in 1960 and Chairman in 1979. The decline in the British car industry in the 1970s caused Cripps to diversify his business interests, and he invested abroad, playing a major role in the creation of Velcro Industries. By these means he continued to channel funds into the family charitable foundation. CPMG Architects is an architectural practice in Nottingham. History The practice was established in 1997 from the merger of two local companies, ''Crampin Pring'', and ''James McArtney''.
