Alfred Barrow Health Centre
Alfred Barrow Health Centre is a primary care health centre in Barrow-in-Furness. It is housed in a refurbishment of the former Alfred Barrow School with a newly built extension housing the patient-facing services and all clinical spaces. It was developed by a public private partnership, eLIFT Cumbria, involving Community Health Partnerships. It has a base for the North West Ambulance Service. The contractor was ESH Construction. It opened in November 2019 with a celebration event. Barrow-in-Furness
Barrow-in-Furness is a port town in Cumbria, England. Historically in Lancashire, it was incorporated as a municipal borough in 1867 and merged with Dalton-in-Furness Urban District in 1974 to form the Borough of Barrow-in-Furness. In 2023 the borough will merge with Eden and South Lakeland districts to form a new unitary authority; Westmorland and Furness. At the tip of the Furness peninsula, close to the Lake District, it is bordered by Morecambe Bay, the Duddon Estuary and the Irish Sea. In 2011, Barrow's population was 56,745, making it the second largest urban area in Cumbria after Carlisle. Natives of Barrow, as well as the local dialect, are known as Barrovian. Community Health Partnerships (formerly Partnerships for Health) is a Department of Health owned company in the United Kingdom. Its role was to set up public-private partnerships to invest in new healthcare facilities in England via the NHS Local Improvement Finance Trust programme. The company was established in 2001 as Partnerships for Health, a joint venture between the Department of Health and Partnerships UK. North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust was created in October 2019 by a merger between Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust.
