Crazy As Pinoy
Crazy as Pinoy is a Filipino hip hop group from Marikina, Philippines. Crazy as Pinoy was formed in the 1990s, and achieved mainstream success after the group became one of the finalists of ''Eat Bulaga!''s rap battle segment, ''Rappublic of the Philippines''. The lineup consisted of the members and their alter egos loosely based on José Rizal's novel, '' Noli Me Tángere''. Crazy as Pinoy released their self-titled album in 2014, spawning songs such as "Tayo Pa Kaya" and their Awit Award-winning song, "Di Sinasadya". The group was also part of the two volumes of ''Rappublic of the Philippines'' with the songs "Crazy Dance", "Huwad" and "Panaginip". Lordivino Ignacio (born December 11, 1977), known professionally as Bassilyo, is a Filipino rapper, singer and songwriter. The name Bassilyo is based on the character Basilio, from the novel ''Noli Me Tangere''. Bassilyo is also an occasional actor. ''Noli Me Tángere'' (Latin for "Touch Me Not") is a novel by Filipino writer and activist José Rizal and was published during the Spanish colonial period of the Philippines. It explores inequities in law and practice in terms of the treatment by the ruling government and the Spanish Catholic friars of the resident peoples in the late 19th century. Originally written by Rizal in Spanish, the book has since been more commonly published and read in the Philippines in either Tagalog (the major indigenous language), or English. The Awit Awards are music awards in the Philippines given annually by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI) to recognize the outstanding achievements in the music industry. The word "Awit" means "song" literally in Filipino. The first awards were given in 1969 at a ceremony in Makati. After three awards ceremonies were held, the Awit Awards were discontinued in 1972. In 1988, PARI brought back the awards and today, the organization still handles these awards.
