Copa Ecuador
The Copa Ecuador, officially known as Copa FEF Ecuador, is a knockout football competition in men's domestic Ecuadorian football organized by the Ecuadorian Football Federation that started in 1970 and was reinstated in 2018. The winners qualify for the first stage of the following year's Copa Libertadores and the Supercopa Ecuador against the Serie A champions. Background In 1970, the Ecuadorian Football Association (nowadays known as the Ecuadorian Football Federation or FEF), organized a tournament named ''Copa Ecuador'' to choose a representative for the 1970 Copa Ganadores de Copa. Ecuadorian Football Federation
The Ecuadorian Football Federation ( or ) is the governing body of football in Ecuador. Its headquarters are in Quito, and it organizes the country's various football competitions and oversees the Ecuador national team. History Numerous amateur federations sprouted in the provinces with the largest cities, being Quito, and Guayaquil. Seeking to unify and compete against each federation, the Football Federation was created on May 30, 1925, known as Association of Ecuadorian Football. In 1926, the federation hosted its first organized competition the Riobamba Olimpic, and became FIFA affiliated. In 1927 it formally joined CONMEBOL, but debuted in competition in 1939 in the South American Championship. 2019 Copa Ecuador
The 2019 Copa Ecuador was the second edition of the Copa Ecuador, Ecuador's domestic football cup. It began with the first round on 10 November 2018 and concluded with its double-legged final on 10 and 16 November 2019. LDU Quito were the winners, beating Delfín on away goals after tying 3–3 on aggregate score. They would have qualified for the 2020 Copa Sudamericana, but since they had already qualified for international competition through their league performance as well as the runners-up and both semifinalists, the berth was reallocated to the ninth-placed team of the league, El Nacional. 2024 Copa Ecuador
The 2024 Copa Ecuador (officially known as the Copa Ecuador DirecTV PlayGreen 2024 for sponsorship purposes) was the fourth edition of the Copa Ecuador, Ecuador's domestic football cup. It began on 19 June 2024 and ended with the single-match final on 27 November 2024. El Nacional won their second Copa Ecuador title in this edition, defeating the defending champions Independiente del Valle 1–0 in the final. As Copa Ecuador champions, El Nacional qualified for the 2025 Copa Libertadores. Club de Alto Rendimiento Especializado Independiente del Valle, known simply as Independiente del Valle, is a professional football club based in Sangolquí Ecuador that currently plays in the Ecuadorian Serie A.
