''Coolie'' (; ) is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language action thriller film directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by Sun Pictures. The film stars Rajinikanth in the titular role, alongside Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan and Mahendran. The film was officially announced in September 2023 under the tentative title ''Thalaivar 171,'' as Rajinikanth's 171st film as a lead actor, and the official title was announced in April 2024. Principal photography commenced the following July in Hyderabad along with another schedule held in Chennai. Lokesh Kanagaraj (born 14 March 1986) is an Indian film director and screenwriter who works in Tamil films. He started his careers with a short film in the 2016 anthology '' Aviyal.'' He later directed his first feature film ''Maanagaram'' (2017). He created the Lokesh Cinematic Universe franchise with his films ''Kaithi'' (2019) and ''Vikram'' (2022). His upcoming film, ''Leo'', is also intended to be a part of the universe. Leo marked the second collaboration between Vijay and Lokesh after ''Master'' (2021).
