Robert Coogan (December 13, 1924 – May 12, 1978) was an American film and television actor. Early life Robert Coogan was born in Glendale, California, to parents Jack Coogan Sr. and Lillian Coogan. His older brother was Jackie Coogan, perhaps Hollywood's most famous child star of the 1920s. Career Starting as a child actor, Robert Coogan made his film debut as Sooky in '' Skippy'' (1931), a comedy-drama family film which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. Scot resides in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he records, performs and has worked as a counselor at Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp. Mark J. Coogan (born May 1, 1966) is an American coach and retired American track athlete. Running career He attended Bishop Feehan High School in Attleboro, Massachusetts, and the University of Maryland, College Park. Coogan was coached at the University of Maryland by Charles Florence Torpey, who headed the Men's and Women's running teams at La Salle University until his untimely death. While in college, Coogan specialized in the steeplechase. Coogan was the first Massachusetts native to run the mile in under four minutes. California Child Actor's Bill
The California Child Actor's Bill (also known as Coogan Act or Coogan Bill) is a law applicable to child performers, designed to safeguard a portion of their earnings for when they reach the age of majority, and protect them from exploitation and abuse. The original Bill was passed in 1939 by the State of California in response to the plight of who earned millions of dollars as a successful child actor only to discover, upon reaching adulthood, that his mother and stepfather had spent almost all of his money. Since then, it has been revised a few times, most recently on December 7, 2019. As it stands, money earned and accumulated under a contract under the code remains the sole legal property of the minor child.
