Cooch Behar Rash Mela
Cooch Behar ''Rash Mela'' (commonly known as just Rash Mela or Ras Mela; Bengali language, Bengali: রাস মেলা) is the annual winter carnival in Cooch Behar, West Bengal, India which is organised on the occasion of ''Rash Purnima'' every year between the months of November and December every year since the rule of the 17th King of Cooch Behar State, Koch Bihar Maharaja Harendra Narayan. It is being held every year except in 1912 due to the 1899–1923 cholera pandemic, cholera outbreak and in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The duration of the carnival varies between 15-20 days every year. History The exact date of inauguration of the carnival is not known but is widely accepted that it began during the rule of the 17th King of Koch Bihar, i.e. Maharaja Harendra Narayan, during 1783-1839. Rashchakra
The Raash-Chakra or The Holy Wheel is a structure built during the Cooch Behar Rash Mela that is held in honour of Lord Madan Mohan, the avatar of Lord Krishna in Cooch Behar, West Bengal in India. Every year the Raash-Chakra built by a group of artisans on behalf of the Debuttor Trust Board which organizes the Lord Madan Mohan Raash Utsav. Shakta Rash (ISO: ; ), also known as Rash Utsav, is an annual festival, celebrated uniquely in Nabadwip and Santipur of West Bengal. Putana
In Hinduism, Pūtanā () is a Rakshasa, rakshasi (demoness), who was killed by the infant-god Krishna. Putana disguises as a young, beautiful woman and tries to kill the god by breast-feeding poisoned milk; however Krishna sucks her milk as well as her life via her breasts. Putana is also considered as a foster-mother of Krishna as she breast-fed him. By offering her milk, Putana had performed "the supreme act of maternal devotion", in the shadow of her evil motives. The legend is told and retold in Hindu scriptures and some Indian books, which portray her variously as an evil hag or a demoness who surrendered herself to Krishna, though she initially came with evil motives.
