Continental (album)
''Continental'' is an album by the British band Saint Etienne, originally released only in Japan. Described by band member Bob Stanley as "a patchwork more than a compilation", it includes previously released material such as the UK hit "He's on the Phone" as well as curios like their cover of the Paul Gardiner song " Stormtrooper in Drag". Many of the tracks were recorded in 1995–97, when the band was taking a break to work on other projects. The remixes on the album had all appeared on '' Casino Classics''. In 2009, the album was released in the UK for the first time as part of the band's back catalogue reissue series. The deluxe edition includes six previously unreleased tracks. Saint Etienne (band)
Saint Etienne ( ) are an English band from Greater London, formed in 1990. The band consists of Sarah Cracknell, Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs. Commonly associated with the indie dance scene of the 1990s, their music blends club culture with 1960s pop and other disparate influences. Their debut album, '' Foxbase Alpha'', was released to critical acclaim in 1991, featuring their most enduring hits " Only Love Can Break Your Heart" and " Nothing Can Stop Us". It was followed by '' So Tough'' (1993), with the number twelve single " You're in a Bad Way", and the techno folk experiment of '' Tiger Bay'' (1994); both albums reached the top-ten. Pete Wiggs
Peter Stewart Wiggs (born 15 May 1966) is an English musician and DJ from Reigate, Surrey. Saint Etienne Pete Wiggs is a member of the pop/dance group Saint Etienne (alongside Bob Stanley and Sarah Cracknell) for which he co-writes songs, produces and plays keyboards on stage. With the advent of computer based digital recording in the early 2000s, Wiggs set up his home studio Needham Sound (named after Chris Needham from the BBC documentary ''In Bed With Chris Needham''). Film and soundtracks Wiggs has assisted in the production of several Saint Etienne film projects filmed and directed by Paul Kelly. Psychonauts (band)
Psychonauts, also known as The Psychonauts, are a British music duo. They consist of Pablo Clement and Paul Mogg. The two met in Somerset, UK, while "digging through crates at the local record store". Clement is also a member of James Lavelle's Unkle project. Career In 1998, Psychonauts released a mix album, ''Time Machine'', on Mo' Wax. In 2015, ''Fact'' placed it at number 35 on the "50 Best Trip-Hop Albums of All Time" list. In 2003, the duo released their first studio album, ''Songs for Creatures'', on International DeeJay Gigolo Records. Brian Thomas Higgins (born November 4, 1966) is a British record producer and songwriter who has written and produced albums and tracks for several successful pop music singers and groups, including Girls Aloud, S Club 7, Sugababes, and the Saturdays, through his Xenomania production team. Miranda Cooper is a key collaborator who has co-writing credits in nearly all Xenomania-created tracks. His musical style has been described as part electro, part power pop, part basic pop, with elements of new wave, rave and dance found in many of his collaborations. Gerard Johnson (musician)
Gerard Mark Johnson (born 1963) is a British keyboard player. He is best known for his work with Saint Etienne, The Syn and Yes. Early years Johnson was born in Newport, Monmouthshire, Wales. He was educated at Presentation College, Reading, Berkshire, England. He was a member of the Progress Theatre Student Group (1976–1981) and studied as a Tonmeister at the University of Surrey, Guildford. Career Johnson originally trained and worked as a recording engineer at London's Music Works studio (1985–87) and then as Chief Engineer at Orinoco Studios (1987–91). Republica
Republica are an English alternative rock band formed in 1994. They reached the height of their popularity from 1996 to 1999. The band went on hiatus in 2001 and reunited in 2008. The Republica sound was described by the band as " technopop punk rock". The current line-up consists of Saffron (vocals), Tim Dorney (keyboards) and Johnny Male (guitar). Marc Bolan ( ; born Mark Feld; 30 September 1947 – 16 September 1977) was an English guitarist, singer-songwriter and poet. He was a pioneer of the glam rock movement in the early 1970s with his band T. Rex (band), T. Rex. Broadcast were an English band formed in Birmingham in 1995 by Trish Keenan (vocals, keyboards, guitar) and James Cargill (bass). Sarah Jane Cracknell (born 12 April 1967) is an English singer-songwriter and lead singer of the electronic music band Saint Etienne. Career Cracknell's career started with the Windsor-based indie band The Worried Parachutes in 1982. Following the demise of the band she released two solo singles, "Love Is All You Need," and "Coastal Town" in 1987. With friend Mick Bund, she then formed a new band, Prime Time, who released a handful of singles.
