Consentacle
''Consentacle'' is a science fiction cooperative board game about negotiating consensual sex between two femme characters: a human astronaut and a tentacled alien. It was designed by Naomi Clark and illustrated by James Harvey. ''Consentacle'' was published in 2018 after a successful Kickstarter campaign raised $154,609. The prototype for ''Consentacle'' won the Impact Award at IndieCade 2015. Themes Clark, who is part Japanese, was inspired by the idea of reclaiming hentai to represent positive queer relationships. In a 2019 interview with Alex Meehan for ''Tabletop Gaming'', she explained, "I believed that the concept could be reclaimed and turned around; Consentacle is not what people expect from a game with tentacles in it." Naomi Clark (game Designer)
Naomi Clark is a Japanese American game designer, writer, and professor who currently serves as the departmental chair of NYU Game Center at New York University Tisch School of the Arts. During Clark's term as chair of the department, NYU Game Center has been ranked by The Princeton Review as the top school for game design. Her games often address LGBTQ themes. She designed Consentacle, a science fiction cooperative board game, which raised $154,609 on Kickstarter and won the IndieCade Impact Award. Clark co-wrote the book ''A Game Design Vocabulary'' with Anna Anthropy. Clark is a member of New York City's Game Development Industry Council. IndieCade is an international juried festival of independent games. Game types include video games, live-action games, and tabletop games. In linguistics, reappropriation, reclamation, or resignification is the cultural process by which a group reclaims words or artifacts that were previously used in a way disparaging of that group.
