Connacht Under-21 Football Championship
The Connacht GAA Football Under-20 Championship, known simply as the Connacht Under-20 Championship, is an annual inter-county Gaelic football competition organised by the Connacht Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county football competition for male players between the ages of 17 and 20 in the province of Connacht. The championship was contested as the Connacht Under-21 Championship between 1964 and 2016 before changing to an under-20 age category from 2018. It is sponsored by EirGrid. The final, currently held in March, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during a three-week period, and the results determine which team receives the J. J. Fahy Cup. The championship has always been played on a straight knockout basis whereby once a team loses they are eliminated from the championship. 2022 All-Ireland Under-20 Football Championship
The 2022 All-Ireland Under-20 Football Championship was the fifth staging of the All-Ireland Under-20 Championship and the 59th staging overall of a Gaelic football championship for players between the minor and senior grades. The championship began on 25 March and ended on 14 May 2022. Offaly were the defending champions, however they were beaten by Kildare in the Leinster semi-final. The final took place on 14 May 2022, between Kildare and Tyrone. Tyrone won the match by 1–20 to 1–14 to win their sixth title and their first since 2015. Tyrone's Ruairí Canavan was the championship's top scorer with 1–34. Canavan was also named U20 Footballer of the Year. Galway GAA
The Galway County Boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae na Gaillimhe) or Galway GAA are one of the 32 county boards in Ireland; they are responsible for Gaelic games in County Galway, and for the Galway county teams. Galway is one of the few dual counties in Ireland, competing in a similar level in both hurling and football codes. Prior to amalgamation of the hurling and football county boards into one county board, each of the two codes were previously run by their separate boards in Galway, which was unusual for a dual county. The county football team was the first from the province of Connacht to win an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC), but the second to appear in the final, following Mayo. Dessie Sloyan
Desmond "Dessie" Sloyan (born 2 February 1976) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer. His league and championship career at senior level with the Sligo county team spanned ten seasons from 1996 until 2006. Playing career Sloyan scored eight points in Sligo's unexpected victory over a Mick O'Dwyer-managed Kildare in the 2001 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. Pádraic Joyce
Pádraic Joyce (born 1 April 1977) is a Gaelic football manager and former player who played as a forward. He has been manager of the senior Galway county team since 2019. Joyce won the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship twice with Galway as a player and received three All Star Awards. He won four Galway Senior Football Championships while playing for the Killererin club. He also captained Ireland in the International Rules Series. In May 2020, the ''Irish Independent'' named Joyce at number sixteen in its "Top 20 footballers in Ireland over the past 50 years". Alan Mulholland
Alan Mulholland (born 1968) is an Irish Gaelic football former manager and player. He was manager of the senior Galway county team from 2011 until 2014, having previously been manager of the minor and under-21 teams. In 2007, Mulholland guided Galway to the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship, defeating Derry, as well as guiding them to the U21 Final in which they defeated Cavan in May 2011. Peter Ford (Gaelic Footballer)
Peter Ford (born 28 January 1962) is an Irish former sportsperson. He played Gaelic football with Sligo club St Mary's and was a member of the senior Mayo county team in the 1980s and 1990s. Color (American English) or colour (British English) is the visual perceptual property deriving from the spectrum of light interacting with the photoreceptor cells of the eyes. Nigel Dineen is a former Gaelic football manager and player who has served as a member of Roscommon County Council since June 2014. He played for the Castlerea St Kevin's club and at senior level for the Roscommon county team. Playing career Dineen won three Roscommon Senior Football Championship titles while playing for Castlerea St Kevin's: in 2003, 2008 and 2009. Castlerea lost to Sligo in 2010. John Maughan
John Maughan (born 1962) is an Irish Gaelic football manager and former player who most recently managed the Offaly football team. He is a former manager of the Mayo, Clare, Roscommon and Fermanagh senior football teams. He is only the third man to lead five different counties and the first to complete a "slam", with at least one of these counties coming from each of Ireland's four provinces. Noel Connelly (born 1972) is an Irish former Gaelic football manager and player. Career He played as a midfielder at senior level for the Mayo county team before later serving as joint-manager of the team with Pat Holmes from 2014 until 2015. Pat Holmes (Gaelic Footballer)
Pat Holmes is an Irish former Gaelic football manager and player. He won a North Mayo Junior Championship in 1986 with Moygownagh. Work commitments caused him to join Castlebar for four years in the early ‘90s where he won Mayo and Connacht club championship medals in 1993. He was very much involved in Mayo's All-Ireland runs in 1996 and 1997 and is the holder of six Connacht Senior Medals, a Connacht U21 Medal and a Hogan Cup Medal. He was captain in 1994 when Mayo lost to Leitrim in the Connacht Final and is a former pupil of St Jarlath's College in Tuam, with whom he won an All-Ireland medal in 1984.
