Coal Mountain Mine
The Coal Mountain Mine is a coal mine located in British Columbia. During operation, the mine has produced 2.5 million tonnes of coal per year. Teck Resources which runs operation on site, put the mine on care and maintenance status in 2018. Operations at the mine were interrupted by fire in 1913, and halted in 1935 by a strike and riot at the site. Corbin, British Columbia
Corbin is a ghost town in British Columbia, Canada. It was a coal mining community located at the foot of Coal Mountain (elev. 6835 feet; 2083 metres), south of the Crowsnest Pass in the southern Canadian Rockies. Daniel Chase Corbin, president of Nelson and Fort Sheppard Railway, founded Corbin in 1905. Three years after later he saw a very thick seam of bituminous coal exposed at the base of Coal Mountain & founded Coal and Coke Company. Care And Maintenance
Care and maintenance is a term used in the mining industry to describe processes and conditions on a closed mine site at which there is the potential to recommence operations at a later date. During the care and maintenance phase, production is stopped but the site is managed to ensure it remains in a safe and stable condition. Causes The mine might be considered to be temporarily unviable, due to current economic conditions or unfavourable resource prices, which are expected to improve at a later date.
