Clyde R. Conner
Clyde Raymond Conner (August 4, 1884 – January 24, 1919) was a college football player, prominent lawyer of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and once United States Commissioner. College football Conner was a prominent tackle for both the Ole Miss Rebels of the University of Mississippi and a prominent center for the Virginia Cavaliers of the University of Virginia. Ole Miss 1902 In a 21 to 0 Egg Bowl victory, Conner "plunged through the line at will" according to the Memphis paper. 1906 He was selected All-Southern in 1906. Macon, Mississippi
Macon is a city in Noxubee County, Mississippi along the Noxubee River. The population was 2,768 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Noxubee County. History In 1817, Jackson's Military Road was built at the urging of Andrew Jackson to provide a direct connection between Nashville, Tennessee, Nashville and New Orleans. The road crossed the Noxubee River just west of Macon, located at the old Choctaw village of Taladega, now the site of the local golf club. The road declined in importance in the 1840s, largely due to the difficulty of travel in the swamps surrounding the Noxubee River in and west of Macon. The Egg Bowl (traditionally named the “Battle for the Golden Egg”) is the name given to the Mississippi State–Ole Miss football rivalry. It is an American college football college rivalry, rivalry game played annually between Southeastern Conference members Mississippi State Bulldogs football, Mississippi State University and Ole Miss Rebels football, Ole Miss (The University of Mississippi). The teams first played each other in 1901. Since 1927 the winning squad has been awarded possession of The Golden Egg trophy. The 1906 Ole Miss Rebels football team represented the University of Mississippi during the 1906 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association football season. Games with Tennessee on October 27 and with Arkansas on November 17 were canceled. This the first season of the legal forward pass. James C. Elmer of Ole Miss caught the first forward pass in the history of the Egg Bowl rivalry. Elmer's kicking accounted for 13 points in a 29–5 rout. For the first time the game marked the end of the season for not one but both teams.
