Clyde 1 Ayrshire, formerly West FM, is an Independent Local Radio station based in Glasgow, Scotland, owned and operated by Bauer Media Audio UK. It is a part of the Hits Radio network. It broadcasts to Ayrshire and South West Scotland. As of May 2025, the rebranded station’s weekly audience had fallen to 82,000 listeners according to RAJAR. Programming Regional programming for ''Bowie At Breakfast'' is produced and broadcast from Clyde 1 at its studios in Clydebank on weekdays 6-10am. At all other times, the station airs networked programming from Forth 1 in Edinburgh, Tay FM in Dundee as well as Hits Radio in London and Manchester. On Monday 10 July 2017, West FM ceased broadcasting from Ayr and moved its studio output to Clyde 1's Clydebank studios. The station retained its local breakfast, albeit presented from Clydebank, with news, sales and charity staff based in Prestwick. FM Broadcasting
FM broadcasting is a method of radio broadcasting that uses frequency modulation (FM) of the radio broadcast carrier wave. Invented in 1933 by American engineer Edwin Armstrong, wide-band FM is used worldwide to transmit high fidelity, high-fidelity sound over broadcast radio. Forth 1 is an Independent Local Radio station based in Edinburgh, Scotland, owned and operated by Bauer Media Audio UK as part of the Hits Radio network. It broadcasts to Edinburgh, Lothian, Fife and Falkirk. As of September 2024, the station has a weekly audience of 383,000 listeners according to RAJAR. History Radio Forth was launched on 22 January 1975 by current chairman Richard Findlay. His opening speech included "This, for the very first time is Radio Forth". Steve Hamilton was the first on-air presenter, hosting the breakfast show. In 1990, Forth was forced to create a new station on its AM frequency. Before this, Radio Forth was broadcast as a single station on both FM and AM frequencies. Bauer Media Audio UK is a UK-based radio division of Bauer Media Group owning brands; Absolute Radio, Greatest Hits Radio, Jazz FM, Hits Radio, KISS, Planet Rock, Magic, Kerrang! Radio Clyde is a group of two Independent Local Radio stations serving Glasgow and West Central Scotland. Radio Clyde is owned and operated by Bauer Media Audio UK, Bauer, based at studios in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire and forms part of Bauer's Hits Radio and Greatest Hits Radio Network of local stations.
