Clonfert College
Clonfert College ( Irish: ''Coláiste Chluain Fearta'') is an Irish Catholic co-educational secondary school situated in Ballinasloe, County Galway. It is set to open in September 2025 as a result of the amalgamation of Garbally College and Ardscoil Mhuire and will operate between two campuses in Garbally Park, the former seat of the Earl of Clancarty, and Mackney respectively. It is under the dual trusteeship of the Bishop of Clonfert and Catholic Education an Irish Schools Trust (CEIST). Ballinasloe
Ballinasloe ( ; ) is a town in the easternmost part of County Galway, Ireland. Located at an ancient crossing point on the River Suck, evidence of ancient settlement in the area includes a number of Bronze Age sites. Built around a 12th-century castle, which defended the Ford (crossing), fording point, the modern town of Ballinasloe was "founded" in the early 13th century. Seán Silke
Seán Silke (born 27 September 1950) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a centre-back for the Galway senior team. Born in Meelick, County Galway, Silke first played competitive hurling in his youth. He made his first impression on the inter-county scene when he made his senior debut during the 1971-72 National Hurling League. Silke went on to play a key role for Galway for over a decade, and won one All-Ireland medal and one National Hurling League medal. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on three occasions. As a member of the Connacht inter-provincial team at various times throughout his career, Silke won two Railway Cup medal. At club level he played with Meelick-Eyrecourt, winning junior and intermediate championship medals. Iggy Clarke
Iggy Clarke (born 1952 in Mullagh, County Galway) is an Irish former hurler who played for his local club Mullagh and at senior level for the Galway county team from 1972 until 1984. Clarke is regarded as one of Galway's greatest-ever players. Playing career Club Clarke played his club hurling with his local Mullagh club. He experienced little success with the club and never won a senior county title during his playing days. Ciaran Fitzgerald is an Irish former rugby union player. He captained Ireland to the Triple Crown in 1982 and 1985, and the Five Nations Championship in 1983. Fitzgerald also captained the Lions on their 1983 tour. After the conclusion of his playing career, Fitzgerald was coach of the national team. Early life Fitzgerald was born in Ballina, County Mayo.
