''Clerks'' is a 1994 American black-and-white comedy film written and directed by Kevin Smith in his List of directorial debuts, feature directorial debut. Starring Smith alongside Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Marilyn Ghigliotti, Lisa Spoonauer, Jason Mewes, and Scott Mosier (with whom he also produced and edited the film), it presents a day in the lives of store clerks List of View Askewniverse characters#Dante Hicks, Dante Hicks (O'Halloran) and List of View Askewniverse characters#Randal Graves, Randal Graves (Anderson) as well as their acquaintances. It is the first of Smith's View Askewniverse films, and introduces several recurring characters, notably Jay and Silent Bob (played by Mewes and Smith respectively). Kevin Patrick Smith (born August 2, 1970) is an American film director, producer, writer, and actor. Walt Flanagan
Walter Flanagan is a former comic book store manager, reality television personality, podcaster, and comic book artist. Flanagan is a long-time friend of Kevin Smith, and (according to Smith's book '' Silent Bob Speaks'') it was Flanagan who turned Smith on to comic books. He formerly managed Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash in Red Bank, New Jersey. Flanagan was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, grew up in nearby Highlands and attended Henry Hudson Regional High School with Smith. Flanagan is the co-host of the '' Tell 'Em Steve-Dave!'' podcast with longtime friends Bryan Johnson and Brian Quinn.
