Belarusian Liberal Youth Organization "Civil Forum" ( be, Рэспубліканская грамадская моладзевая арганізацыя "Гpaмадзянскі форум", russian: Республиканская молодежная организация "Гpaжданский форум") is the only Belarusian liberal youth organization and the only democratic youth organization with the legal status on national level (it was registered by the Ministry of Justice of Belarus in 1996). Civil Forum acts in order to bring closer the day when elections in Belarus are free from frauds, when liberal rights and freedoms of individuals are not repressed by the government, when citizens are free to speak and act without fear of being imprisoned by political and ideological reasons, when Belarus is the sustainable, responsible and peaceable partner in the Eastern-European region. The president of the Republic of Belarus ( be, Прэзідэнт Рэспублікі Беларусь; russian: Президент Республики Беларусь) is the head of state and head of government of Belarus. The office was created in 1994 with the passing of the Constitution of Belarus by the Supreme Soviet. This replaced the office of Chairman of the Supreme Soviet as the head of state. The tasks of the president include executing foreign and domestic policy, defending the rights and general welfare of citizens and residents, and upholding the Constitution. The president is mandated by the Constitution to serve as a leader in the social affairs of the country and to act as its main representative abroad. Bykhaw ( be, Бы́хаў, Łacinka: ''Bychaŭ'', ) or Bykhov (russian: Бы́хов, pl, Bychów, yi, italic=yes, Bihov, , lt, Bychavas) is a town in the eastern Belarusian Mogilev Region. It is located 44 km south of Mogilev (M on the Dnieper River (Dniapro), and is the administrative center of the Bykhaw District. As of 2009, its population was 17,031. History In the early modern times Bykhaw was an important fortress known for hard battles. Bykhaw is known for its 17th-century synagogue. During World War II, Bychaw was occupied by the German Army from 5 July 1941 until 28 June 1944 and placed under the administration of the ''Generalbezirk Weißruthenien'' of ''Reichskommissariat Ostland''. The Jews of Bykhov were killed in two mass shootings in September and November 1941. According to the German and Soviet archives, there were 4600 Jews from Bykhaw who were shot in Voronino. Byalynichy ( be, Бялынічы, ; rus, Белыничи, Belynichi, pl, Białynicze) is a city and administrative center of Byalynichy District of Mogilev Region in Belarus. Among other things, the town is known for the icon Our Lady of Byalynichy, venerated by both Eastern Orthodox, Greek Catholic and Roman Catholic Christians of Belarus. History Around 780 Jews lived in Byalynichy at the eve of World War II. They composed about 24 percent of the total population. The Jews were mainly traders. Byalynichy was under German occupation from 6 July 1941 until 29 June 1944. There were different execution sites of the Byalynichy Jews. The main one is in the forest: more than 600 Jews (mainly women and children) from the Byalynichy ghetto were shot in two large pits on December 12, 1941. Babruysk, Babrujsk or Bobruisk ( be, Бабруйск , Łacinka: , rus, Бобруйск, Bobrujsk, bɐˈbruɪ̯s̪k, yi, באָברויסק ) is a city in the Mogilev Region of eastern Belarus on the Berezina River. , its population was 209,675. The name Babrujsk (as well as that of the Babruyka River) probably originates from the Belarusian word (; 'beaver'), many of which used to inhabit the Berezina. 2001 Belarusian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Belarus on 9 September 2001. The election should have been held in 1999, but a revised constitution adopted in 1996 extended incumbent Alexander Lukashenko's term for another two years. Lukashenko was re-elected with 77.4% of the vote over two minor candidates. Voter turnout was 84%. A senior official for the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe noted that the pre-election environment was "not democratic" and would not describe it as "free and fair". 2000 Belarusian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Belarus on 15 October 2000, with further rounds of voting on 29 October, 18 March and 1 April. The vast majority of successful candidates, 94 of 110, were independents.Nohlen & Stöver, p261 Voter turnout was reported to be 61.08% in the first round. A total of 566 candidates contested the election, only around fifty of which were opponents of President Alexander Lukashenko.
