Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park is a historic cemetery, cemetery,public park and local nature reserve (including a Site of Nature Conservation Interest, Metropolitan Site of National Importance for Nature Conservation) in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets within the East End of London. It is considered one of the great London cemeteries of the Victorian era, the "Magnificent Seven cemeteries, Magnificent Seven", instigated because the typical (until that time) church burial plots had become overcrowded, and reflective of the grand Victorian funerary practices. The cemetery opened in 1841 and closed for burials in 1966 following an Act of Parliament and local authority actions. Since 1990, it has been managed by the Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park, a registered charity, with the purpose of protecting, preserving and promoting this important space for conservation, heritage and community. The London Borough of Tower Hamlets is a borough in London, England. Situated on the north bank of the River Thames and immediately east of the City of London, the borough spans much of the traditional East End of London and includes much of the regenerated London Docklands area. Bow Road () is a London Underground station located on Bow Road in Bow, London, England. It is on the District and Hammersmith & City lines. Abney Park cemetery is one of the "Magnificent Seven" cemeteries in London, England. Abney Park in Stoke Newington in the London Borough of Hackney is a historic parkland originally laid out in the early 18th century by Lady Mary Abney, Dr. Isaac Watts and the neighbouring Hartopp family. In 1840 it became a non-denominational garden cemetery, a semi-public park arboretum, and an educational institute, which was widely celebrated as an example of its time. Brompton Cemetery
Brompton Cemetery (originally the West of London and Westminster Cemetery) is since 1852 the first (and only) London cemetery to be Crown Estate, Crown property, managed by The Royal Parks, in West Brompton in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It is one of the Magnificent Seven cemeteries. Established by Act of Parliament and laid out in 1839, it opened in 1840. West Norwood Cemetery
West Norwood Cemetery is a rural cemetery in West Norwood in London, England. It was also known as the South Metropolitan Cemetery. One of the first private landscaped cemeteries in London, it is one of the " Magnificent Seven" cemeteries of London, and is a site of major historical, architectural and ecological interest. Its grounds are a mixture of historic monumental cemetery and modern lawn cemetery, but it also has catacombs, cremation plots and a columbarium for cinerary ashes. Nunhead Cemetery is one of the Magnificent Seven cemeteries in London, England. It is perhaps the least famous and celebrated of them. The cemetery is located in Nunhead in the London Borough of Southwark and was originally known as All Saints' Cemetery. Soanes Centre
The Soanes Centre is an education and ecology studies centre in Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park, London, opened in 1993 by David Bellamy. It is owned by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The building is fully accessible and has a large classroom for up to 30 people and a smaller training room.
