Ramón Gómez De La Serna
Ramón Gómez de la Serna y Puig (July 3, 1888 – January 13, 1963), born in Madrid, was a Spanish writer, dramatist and avant-garde agitator. He strongly influenced surrealist film maker Luis Buñuel. Ramón Gómez de la Serna was especially known for " Greguería", a short form of poetry that roughly corresponds to the one-liner in comedy. The Gregueria is especially able to grant a new and often humorous perspective. Serna published over 90 works in all literary genres. In 1933, he was invited to Buenos Aires. He stayed there through the Spanish Civil War and the following Spanish State till the end of his life. Biography Born into an upper-middle-class family, Gómez de la Serna refused to follow his father into law or politics and soon adopted the marginal lifestyle of a bohemian bourgeois artist, writing for the journal '' Prometeo'', funded by his father between 1908 and 1912. El circo (English: ''The Circus'') is a 1973 comic written and drawn by Francisco Ibañez for the ''Mortadelo y Filemón'' (''Mort & Phil'') comic series. Publication history The comic strip was first published in the '' Mortadelo'' magazine, issues #136 (July 2, 1973) to #146 (August 10, 1973). Plot The T.I.A. has been informed that a staff member of Circus Sidral is using his job as a front for smuggling an unknown type of contraband across the border. Mortadelo and Filemón are tasked by El Super to find the culprit and secure the contraband. Circo is a band from Puerto Rico which formed in 2001. Its members are Jose Luis "Fofé" Abreu (vocals), Edgardo "Egui" Santiago (keyboards), José David Pérez (drums, vibes), Nicolás Cordero (bass)(Nico is no longer with the band), and Orlando Méndez (guitar). Calexico is an American indie rock band based in Tucson, Arizona. Founded in 1996, the band's two main members, Joey Burns and John Convertino, first played together in Los Angeles as part of the group Giant Sand. They have recorded a number of albums on Quarterstick Records and City Slang, and their 2005 EP, ''In the Reins'', recorded with Iron & Wine, reached the Billboard 200 album charts. "Alabama Jubilee" is a song written with music by George L. Cobb and words by Jack Yellen. The first known recording was that of comedians Collins & Harlan in 1915. The song is considered an American popular standard. The most popular versions of the song were Red Foley's 1951 version (#3 country, #28 pop) and the 1955 instrumental version by the Ferko String Band, which reached #13 on Cashbox, #14 on the Billboard Jukebox chart, and #20 in the UK.
