Ciarán McGann
Ciarán McGann is an Irish hurler from Castlelyons in County Cork. He plays with the local Castlelyons club and with the Cork senior inter-county team. He has appeared for Cork as a half-back and as a half-forward. Playing career McGann has been a member of the Cork squad for the National Hurling League and All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship since 2006, though he has never established himself as a regular starter. Along with five other members of the Cork squad for the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 2006 final, McGann was not selected in the 2007 squad by manager Gerald McCarthy. Castlelyons
Castlelyons () is a small village in the east of County Cork, Ireland. It is also a civil parish in the barony of Barrymore. The name is derived from a stronghold of the Uí Liatháin - an early medieval kingdom. It is situated south of Fermoy. In the 2022 census the village recorded a population of 428. Castlelyons is part of the Dáil constituency of Cork East. Castlelyons GAA
Castlelyons GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Castlelyons, County Cork, Ireland. The club is affiliated to the East Cork Board and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling, but also fields teams in Gaelic football. History Located in the village of Castlelyons, about 6 miles from Fermoy, Castlelyons GAA Club was founded in 1948. The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. Gerald McCarthy (hurler)
Gerald McCarthy (born 12 September 1945) is an Irish former hurling manager and player. In his playing career he was known for his intelligent anticipation, his ability to find open space and his overhead striking of the ball. A versatile player who lined out in no less than eight different positions, McCarthy made his name as an attacking midfielder and as a centre-forward. He is widely regarded to be one of the most skilful and stylish players of his generation and as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport.
