Chuck Wilson (sports Journalist)
Chuck Wilson (born February 8, 1954) is an American interviewer, reporter and sports talk radio host. Wilson was an original host when the ESPN Radio Network debuted on January 4, 1992, and has 20 years experience on national radio, including close to 17 years at ESPN. In December 2009, Sports Illustrated.com named Wilson runner-up for "Best National Sports Radio Host" of the decade. Wilson is the founder and director of Even Field, a nonprofit organization that promotes character through sports. In 2007, Wilson was named one of the "100 Most Influential Sports Educators in America" by the Institute for International Sport. Robert Quinlan Costas (born March 22, 1952) is an American sportscaster who is known for his long tenure with NBC Sports, from 1980 through 2019. He is currently the lead play-by-play announcer for ''NBC Sunday Night Football'', having replaced Al Michaels in 2022, and is set to become the lead play-by-play announcer for NBC's NBA coverage in 2025. WPRO (630 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in Providence, Rhode Island. It is owned by Cumulus Media, broadcasting a news/talk radio format, which is simulcast in the Newport area on co-owned 99.7 WEAN-FM. The studios for WPRO and other Cumulus Providence stations are on Wampanoag Road in East Providence, at the Salty Brine Broadcast Center, named after WPRO's longtime morning host. WPRO is powered at 5,000 watts, from a transmitter site co-located with the studios in East Providence. It has a non-directional signal by day. Established in 1950 as WPAW, the station is owned by Relevant Radio, Inc. and airs Catholic talk radio programming. History In 1948, a construction permit was issued for 500 watts on 1380 kHz for Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The station went on the air in 1950 as WPAW with local origination studios and transmitter originally located on the grounds of the affiliated "Peoples Coal Company" coal yard at 75 Mill Street in Cumberland, Rhode Island. In 1952, it moved to 550 kHz, and on October 13, 1961, the station was renamed WXTR.
