The discography of the American rock band the Velvet Underground consists of five studio albums, six live albums, 14 compilation albums, six box sets and 11 singles. The first line-up was formed in New York City consisting of Lou Reed on vocals and guitar, John Cale on several instruments (viola, keyboards and bass), Sterling Morrison on guitar and bass and Angus MacLise on percussion (replaced by Maureen Tucker in November 1965). On March 12, 1967 they released their debut album ''The Velvet Underground & Nico'' featuring German singer Nico. The album charted in the United States and originally peaked at number 171 on the ''Billboard'' album charts and produced two singles, "All Tomorrow's Parties" and " Sunday Morning", which did not chart anywhere. The Velvet Underground
The Velvet Underground were an American Rock music, rock band formed in New York City in 1964. Its classic lineup consisted of singer and guitarist Lou Reed, Welsh multi-instrumentalist John Cale, guitarist Sterling Morrison, and percussionist Moe Tucker. Though their integration of rock and the avant-garde earned them little commercial success during their initial nine-year run, they are now widely regarded as one of the most influential bands in rock music, as well as Underground music, underground, Experimental music, experimental, and Alternative music, alternative music. All Tomorrow's Parties
"All Tomorrow's Parties" is a song by the Velvet Underground and Nico, written by Lou Reed and released as the band's debut single in 1966. The song is from their 1967 debut studio album, ''The Velvet Underground & Nico''. Inspiration for the song came from Reed's observation of Andy Warhol's clique—according to Reed, the song is "a very apt description of certain people at the The Factory, Factory at the time. ... I watched Andy. I watched Andy watching everybody. I would hear people say the most astonishing things, the craziest things, the funniest things, the saddest things." Walter Powers (musician)
Walter Powers III (born August 4, 1946) is an American bass guitarist. He was a member of the Velvet Underground from late 1970 until late 1971. Walter Powers was born in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. Before joining the Velvet Underground, he played with future co-Velvet Willie Alexander in Boston-based band the Lost from 1964 until 1967, during which time they toured with the Beach Boys, and from 1967 with Alexander and another future fellow Velvet, Doug Yule, in the Grass Menagerie. Willie Alexander
Willie "Loco" Alexander (born January 13, 1943) is an American singer and keyboardist based in Gloucester, Massachusetts. He played with the Lost, the Bagatelle and the Grass Menagerie, before becoming a member of the Velvet Underground in late 1971, joining fellow Grass Menagerie alumni Doug Yule and Walter Powers and replacing Sterling Morrison, who had gone off to pursue an academic career. With the Velvet Underground, Alexander toured England, Scotland and the Netherlands in support of then-current album '' Loaded''. After completing the tour on November 21, 1971, in Groningen, the band planned to start recording a new album, but band manager Steve Sesnick sent all of the band but Yule home, presumably to retain maximum control of the product (the resulting album was '' Squeeze'', released in 1973) and effectively ending Alexander's time with the band. Loaded (The Velvet Underground Album)
''Loaded'' is the fourth studio album by the American Rock music, rock band the Velvet Underground, released on November 15, 1970 by Atlantic Records subsidiary Cotillion Records, Cotillion. It was the final album recorded featuring any of the band's original members; the lead singer and primary songwriter Lou Reed left the band shortly before the album's release, and the guitarist Sterling Morrison and the drummer Maureen Tucker left the band in 1971. For this reason, it is often considered by fans to be the last "true" Velvet Underground album. The multi-instrumentalist Doug Yule remained and released the album ''Squeeze (The Velvet Underground album), Squeeze'' in 1973 before the band's dissolution the same year. Doug Yule
Douglas Alan Yule (born February 25, 1947) is an American musician and singer, most notable for being a member of the Velvet Underground from 1968 to 1973, serving as the bassist, guitarist, keyboardist and vocalist. Biography Early life Doug Yule was born in Mineola, Long Island, New York, and grew up in Great Neck with five sisters and a younger brother. As a child he took piano and baritone horn lessons. He later said in an interview that he would have preferred violin lessons, but the violin had to be rented and the baritone horn was available free of charge. In high school he played the tuba, as well as the guitar and the banjo, and sang in the church choir. ''The Velvet Underground'' is the third studio album by the American rock band the Velvet Underground. Released in March 1969 by MGM Records, it was their first record with multi-instrumentalist Doug Yule, who replaced previous member John Cale. Recorded in 1968 at TTG Studios in Los Angeles, California, the album's sound—consisting largely of ballads and straightforward rock songs—marked a notable shift in style from the band's previous recordings. Experimental music is a general label for any music or music genre that pushes existing boundaries and genre definitions.
