Douglas Alan Yule (born February 25, 1947) is an American musician and singer, most notable for being a member of the Velvet Underground from 1968 to 1973, serving as the bassist, guitarist, keyboardist and vocalist. Biography Early life Doug Yule was born in Mineola, Long Island, New York, and grew up in Great Neck with five sisters and a younger brother. As a child he took piano and baritone horn lessons. He later said in an interview that he would have preferred violin lessons, but the violin had to be rented and the baritone horn was available free of charge. In high school he played the tuba, as well as the guitar and the banjo, and sang in the church choir. ''Sally Can't Dance'' is the fourth solo studio album by American rock musician Lou Reed, released in September 1974 by RCA Records. Steve Katz and Reed produced the album. Squeeze (The Velvet Underground Album)
''Squeeze'' is the fifth and final studio album by the Velvet Underground, recorded in the autumn of 1972 and released in February 1973 by Polydor Records. By this time, Doug Yule, was the only remaining member of the group; he wrote and recorded the album almost entirely by himself. Yule had joined the Velvet Underground (replacing founding member John Cale) in October 1968, prior to the band recording their self-titled third album, and had also contributed significantly to the fourth album, '' Loaded''. Following the departures of the remaining founding members (Reed and Sterling Morrison), Yule was positioned as the de facto leader of the band. Longtime drummer Maureen Tucker was slated to appear on ''Squeeze'' by Yule, but she was dismissed by the band's manager, Steve Sesnick. Ian Anderson Paice (born 29 June 1948) is an English musician who is the drummer and last remaining original member of the rock band Deep Purple. He remains the only member of Deep Purple who has served in every line-up since the band's inception in 1968, as well as having played on every album and at every live appearance. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Deep Purple in 2016. Steve Sesnick
Stephen Eugene Sesnick Jr. (September 8, 1941 – October 27, 2022) was an American rock club and rock band manager, and later a businessman. Sesnick is known for being the manager of the Velvet Underground. Early life Sesnick was born in Hoboken, New Jersey, on September 8, 1941. He was educated at St. Cecilia High School in Englewood, New Jersey and he went on to play freshman basketball for St. John's University in New York City. Velvet Underground manager Sesnick was manager of the Boston Tea Party, a seminal Boston nightclub founded in 1967, which was the first in Boston to spearhead the burgeoning psychedelic rock and underground rock scene, and which also helped break bands which went on to become major stars. William Yule (born c. 1954) is an American musician, best known for his brief stint as a temporary drummer for the Velvet Underground during their summer engagement 1970 at Max's Kansas City, sitting in for Maureen Tucker while she was on maternity leave. 1970 When in early 1970, regular Velvet Underground drummer Maureen Tucker became pregnant and had to go on maternity leave, a temporary replacement was needed to fulfill the band's live obligations. Bassist Doug Yule, who had replaced founding member John Cale in 1968, proposed his younger brother Billy, then sixteen years old; he was accepted. Yule started practising with the band (Doug Yule, Lou Reed and Sterling Morrison) immediately and made his live debut on June 24 at Max's Kansas City in New York City, during the two-month engagement the band had there. New Age (The Velvet Underground Song)
"New Age" is the fifth song on The Velvet Underground album '' Loaded'' (1970). It is one of the four songs that feature Doug Yule on vocals, encouraged by main singer and songwriter Lou Reed. The song also appears on '' 1969: The Velvet Underground Live'', with Reed on vocals, singing an earlier, significantly different version of the lyrics. In its original form, it was about Reed's girlfriend at the time, Shelley Albin, and included a possible reference to Reed's bisexuality: "It seems to be my fancy to make it with Frank and Nancy." The later, studio version is written from the point of view of a fan addressing a "fat blonde actress". When the album was released, this song caused controversy. ''Loaded'' is the fourth studio album by the American Rock music, rock band the Velvet Underground, released on November 15, 1970 by Atlantic Records subsidiary Cotillion Records, Cotillion. It was the final album recorded featuring any of the band's original members; the lead singer and primary songwriter Lou Reed left the band shortly before the album's release, and the guitarist Sterling Morrison and the drummer Maureen Tucker left the band in 1971. For this reason, it is often considered by fans to be the last "true" Velvet Underground album.
