''Coronation Street'' (colloquially referred to as ''Corrie'') is a British television soap opera created by ITV Granada, Granada Television and shown on ITV (TV network), ITV since 9 December 1960. The programme centres on a cobbled, terraced street in the fictional town of Weatherfield in Greater Manchester. Concepta Riley (also Hewitt and Regan) is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street'', played by Doreen Keogh. Concepta was created by Tony Warren as one of ''Coronation Street's'' original characters. She debuted in the soap opera's fifth episode which was broadcast on 23 December 1960. Len Fairclough is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street'', played by Peter Adamson between his introduction in 1961 and the character's axing in 1983. Creation and casting Adamson was a former extra and theatre actor who had turned to TV drama with the Granada series ''Skyport'' and ''Knight Errant''. Sheila Birtles (also Crossley) is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street''. She was portrayed by actress Eileen Mayers. The character is famous for her suicide plot which was ultimately axed. Casting Mayers left the series in 1963 and was asked to return for two episodes in 1969. In 1974, the actress returned to filming for another stint as Sheila. Annie Walker (Coronation Street)
Annie Walker (also Beaumont) is a long-standing fictional character in the ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street''. She was played by actress Doris Speed from the series' first episode in 1960 until Speed retired from the role 23 years and 1,726 episodes later in 1983.
