Christmas Møllers Plads
Christmas Møllers Plads is a major junction located in front of the embankment to Christianshavn on northern Amager in Copenhagen, Denmark. It links Torvegade, the main thoroughfare of Christianshavn, with Vermlandsgade, Amagerbrogade, Amagerfælledvej and Ved Stadsgraven-Amager Boulevard. Its name commemorates the Conservative politician Christmas Møller who had been active in the resistance movement during World War II and later served as Minister of Foreign Affairs. History Christmas Møllers Plads is located outside Copenhagen's former Amager Gate. Amager Fælledvej was connected to the Amagerbrogade in the 1900s. At this point, the site was still surrounded by open countryside. Church Of Our Saviour, Copenhagen
The Church of Our Saviour ( da, Vor Frelsers Kirke; ) is a baroque church in Copenhagen, Denmark, most famous for the external spiral winding staircase that can be climbed to the top, offering extensive views over central Copenhagen. It is also noted for its carillon, which is the largest in northern Europe and plays melodies every hour from 8 am to midnight. History When Christian IV planned Christianshavn in 1617, it was intended as an independent merchant's town on the island of Amager and it therefore needed a church. A temporary church was inaugurated in 1639 but construction of the present Church of Our Saviour, the design of Lambert van Haven, did not start until 1682. Amager Boulevard
Amager Boulevard is a street on Amager in Copenhagen, Denmark. It begins at Langebro Bridge and initially follows Stadsgraven east to a Y-junction from where it continues inland to Amagerbrogade while the street Ved Stadsgraven continues along the water to the Christmas Møllers Plads. History The southernmost portion of Christianshavns Enveloppe, a low rampart in front of Christianshavns Vold and Stadsgraven, was formerly located at the site where Amager Boulevard runs today. In front of it was a shallow-watered area. Amager's shoreline was then located approximately where Artillerivej runs today. In the 1880s, it was decided to build a new arsenal at the site as a replacement for Christian IV's Arsenal on Slotsholmen which had become too small. Christianshavns Enveloppe is a former system of outworks located in front of Christianshavns Vold and Stadsgraven, on Amager. in Copenhagen, Denmark. Its well-preserved, northern half is now part of Freetown Christiania and known as Dyssen. Its southern portion was removed in the first half of the 20th century and has now been replaced by a public park, Enveloppeparken. History Christianhavns Vold was one of four ramparts that used to surround Copenhagen. Christianshavns Enveloppe was constructed on the City Moat's Counterscarp in 1779-91. It ran from Quinti Lynette in the north to Kalvebods Lynette in the south and comprised 10 redans which were numbered 1-10 from the north. ''The Olsen Gang in a Fix'' ( da, Olsen-banden på spanden) is a 1969 Danish comedy film directed by Erik Balling and starring Ove Sprogøe. The film was the second in the ''Olsen-banden''-series. Plot After yet another unsuccessful robbery Egon is jailed. When released, he has now been rehabilitated by the pretty social worker Bodil. He works permanently and hopes to impress by being a lawful citizen. Despite Benny and Kjelds regret Egon is clear in his mind, and the gang ends up as a bunch of lawful citizens. Although it starts well for the gang, they are eventually thrown back into the criminal runway, when they are accused of a robbery committed right in front of them in the National Bank, where they serve as cleaning people. The ''Olsen Gang'' ( da, Olsen-banden, no, Olsenbanden, german: Die Olsenbande) is a Denmark, Danish comedy film series created by Danish director Erik Balling and special effects expert Henning Bahs about the eponymous fictional criminal gang. The gang's leader is the criminal genius and habitual offender Egon Olsen and his accomplices are Benny and Kjeld (Kjell in Norwegian). The gang members are harmless, extremely rarely target ordinary citizens, and never deliberately use violence. The first film came in 1968; during the next thirty years a total of fourteen films were made. A Norwegian version of the film series was also made (a total of 14 films from 1969 to 1999), in most cases based directly on the scripts for the Danish films. Christianshavns Vold
Christianshavns Vold is a former rampart which was part of the bastioned fortification ring which used to surround Copenhagen, Denmark. Running along the full south-eastern perimeter of Christianshavn and Holmen, it used to form a protective barrier towards the island of Amager. It consists of earthworks with 12 bastions and in front of it ran a moat, Stadsgraven, now forming a broad canal which separates Christianshavn from the rest of Amager. On the other side of Stadsgraven. on Amager, was a lower system of outworks called Christianshavns Enveloppe of which only the northern half survives. Along with Kastellet on the other side of the harbour, it is the only intact part of the fortification system.
