''Choices – The Singles Collection'' is a greatest hits album by British band The Blow Monkeys, released in 1989 by RCA Records, RCA and distributed by Bertelsmann Music Group, BMG / Ariola Records, Ariola. The album includes most of the band's singles and features genres from the New wave music, new wave of Limping for a Generation, their debut album to pop rock and funky evolution, up to their discovery of the potentialities of the new dance revolution, a genre that they embraced on their final album, ''Springtime for the World'', which was released the following year, shortly before they split up. Composition Two editions of the album were released: the Gramophone record, vinyl version only included the first 10 songs (from "Wait" to "It Pays to Belong"), whereas the CD version contained six more songs, also presenting the singles from their 1984 debut album, ''Limping for a Generation'', which didn't chart in the UK Singles Chart, UK Top 75, as well as two 12" remixes of " ... The Blow Monkeys
The Blow Monkeys are a British pop band formed in 1981. Their first single, "Live Today Love Tomorrow", was released in 1982. They subsequently enjoyed a successful career with several hit singles and albums throughout the 1980s before splitting up at the beginning of the 1990s. Their first hit song was " Digging Your Scene" which hit No. 12 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 14 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart in August 1986. They had four albums and eleven singles in the UK charts between 1986 and 1990. In late 2007 the original band members reunited and have now released a total of twelve albums. Chicago house refers to house music produced during the mid to late 1980s within Chicago. The term is generally used to refer to the original house music of DJs and producers from the area, such as Ron Hardy and Phuture History and origins Disco edits Following Chicago's Disco Demolition Night in mid-1979, disco music's mainstream popularity fell into decline. Ariola
Ariola (also known as Ariola Records, Ariola Express, Ariola-Eurodisc and BMG Ariola) is a German record label. In the late 1980s, it was a subsidiary label of the Bertelsmann Music Group, which in turn has become a part of the international media conglomerate Sony Music Entertainment. Profile Ariola Eurodisc GmbH was founded in 1958 as a music outlet of Bertelsmann. It set up several foreign subsidiaries. The Official Albums Chart is the United Kingdom's industry-recognised national record chart for album, albums. Entries are ranked by sales and audio streaming. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on ''UKChartsPlus'' as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. UK Garage
UK garage, abbreviated as UKG, is a genre of electronic dance music which originated in England in the early to mid-1990s. The genre was most clearly inspired by garage house and jungle production methods, but also incorporates elements from dance-pop and R&B. It is defined by percussive, shuffled rhythms with syncopated hi-hats, cymbals, and snares, and may include either 4/4 house kick patterns or more irregular " 2-step" rhythms. Garage tracks also commonly feature 'chopped up' and time-stretched or pitch-shifted vocal samples complementing the underlying rhythmic structure at a tempo usually around 130 BPM. ''She Was Only a Grocer's Daughter'' is the third album by British pop band the Blow Monkeys, originally released in 1987. The album's title is a reference to Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Margaret Thatcher, whose Conservative government was unpopular with left wing, pro- Labour Party music acts of the 1980s (including the Blow Monkeys), some of whom joined the Red Wedge movement as part of their political activism. Some songs on the album reflect dissatisfaction with the political situation in the UK at the time. After a gradual shift towards a slicker, pop-oriented style, the Blow Monkeys also introduced a dance beat, which became a defining feature of the band's later releases. ''Animal Magic'' is the second album from the British band The Blow Monkeys, released in 1986 by RCA/Ariola (now BMG). It gave the group their commercial breakthrough after their debut album, '' Limping for a Generation'', had won critical acclaim but had only sold modestly. Sales of ''Animal Magic'' were boosted by the hit single "Digging Your Scene", which charted in the UK (peaking at No. 12), the rest of Europe and the US. The album's first single, the ballad "Forbidden Fruit", had been released almost a year before the LP. Ballad
A ballad is a form of verse, often a narrative set to music. Ballads were particularly characteristic of the popular poetry and song of Great Britain and Ireland from the Late Middle Ages until the 19th century. They were widely used across Europe, and later in Australia, North Africa, North America and South America.
