Choekhor Valley
Bumthang Valley is the main inhabited valley in the Bumthang district of Bhutan. History Bumthang is one of the most beautiful and sacred valleys in Bhutan. The main town in the valley is Jakar. Bhutan's only brewery, brewing Red Panda wheat beer, is in Jakar. Bumthang is divided into four ''Gewogs of Bhutan, gewogs'', namely Chhoekhor Gewog, Chhoekhor, Tang Gewog, Tang, Chhume Gewog, Chhume and Ura Gewog, Ura. The valley is broad with various habitats including coniferous woodland. The language spoken in Bumthang is known as Bumthang Kha, a Tibeto-Burman language. Each of the four valleys of Bumthang has its own dialect. Ura Gewog
Ura () is a gewog (village block) of Bumthang District, Bhutan. Ura Gewog consists of ten major villages- Tangsibi, Shingnyeer, Shingkhar, Pangkhar, Somthrang, Beteng, Trabi, Tarshong, Toepa and Chari with total household of 301 and population of 2288, covering an area of around 265 sq. kilometer with some 82% of forest cover Forest cover is the amount of trees that covers a particular area of land. Membartsho
Membartsho (Dzongkha མེ་འབར་མཚོ།), also known as Mebar Tsho, is a holy site, revered as the place where Pema Lingpa, Bhutan's greatest tertön (treasure revealer), discovered several of Padmasambhava, Guru Rinpoche's Terma (religion), terma in the 15th century. Kunzangdrak Monastery
Kunzangdrak () is a Buddhist sacred site in the Tang Valley of central Bhutan. It lies at an altitude of 3,350 metres (10,990 feet) in the hollow of a cliff. Kunzangdra is 19 km from Chamkhar Town and takes a half-hour hike to reach there on foot from the road end. It is one of the four sacred cliffs of Guru Rinpoche in Bumthang. Padmasambhava
Padmasambhava ('Born from a Lotus'), also known as Guru Rinpoche ('Precious Guru'), was a legendary tantric Buddhist Vajracharya, Vajra master from Oddiyana. who fully revealed the Vajrayana in Tibet, circa 8th – 9th centuries... He is considered an emanation or Nirmāṇakāya of Gautama Buddha, Shakyamuni Buddha as foretold by the Buddha himself. Pema Lingpa
Pema Lingpa or Padma Lingpa (, 1450–1521) was a Bhutanese saint and siddha of the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism. He is considered a ''terchen'' or "preeminent tertön" (, discoverer of spiritual treasures) and is considered to be foremost of the "Five Tertön Kings" (). In the history of the Nyingma school in Bhutan, Pema Lingpa is second only in importance to Padmasambhava. Jambay Lhakhang
The Jampa Temple (, THL ''Jampé Lhakhang'') or Temple of Maitreya is located in Bumthang ( Jakar) in Bhutan, and is said to be one of the 108 temples built by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo in 659 CE on a single day, to pin down an ogress to earth forever.Pommaret (2006), p.241 Legend It was divined that the supine demoness was causing obstruction to the spread of Buddhism, and temples were constructed on her body parts that spread across Tibet, Bhutan and the borderlands. Bumthang District (Dzongkha: བུམ་ཐང་རྫོང་ཁག་; Wylie: ''Bum-thang rzong-khag'') is one of the 20 dzongkhag (districts) comprising Bhutan. It contains numerous temples and Buddhist sacred sites. The district is divided into four '' gewogs'' (village blocks), each corresponding to a major glacial valley: Choekor, Tang, Ura, and Chhume.
