Chi Thuy Diem Nguyen is a Canadian politician from the Liberal Party of Canada. She was elected Member of Parliament (Canada), Member of Parliament for Spadina—Harbourfront in the 2025 Canadian federal election. She was previously a candidate in the 2022 Ontario general election. Education She holds an MSc in Social Psychology from the London School of Economics. Background and personal life Nguyen is of Vietnamese Canadians, Vietnamese descent. Prior to being elected in the 2025 Canadian federal election, Nguyen served as Executive Director at Equal Voice, a charity whose focus is on improving gender representation in Canadian politics. Spadina—Harbourfront (formerly Spadina—Fort York) is a federal electoral district in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Spadina—Fort York was created by the 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution and was legally defined in the 2013 representation order. It came into effect upon the call of the 42nd Canadian federal election in October 2015. It covers most of the western portion of Downtown Toronto, and is essentially the successor of Trinity—Spadina, covering the area of that riding south of Dundas Street. Vietnamese Canadians (; ) are Canadian citizens of Vietnamese ancestry. As of 2021, there are 275,530 Vietnamese Canadians, most of whom reside in the provinces of Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, and Quebec. History Mainstream Vietnamese communities began arriving in Canada in the mid-1970s and early 1980s as refugees or boat people following the end of the Vietnam War in 1975, though a couple thousand were already living in Quebec before then, most of whom were students. After the Fall of Saigon, there were two waves of Vietnamese immigrants to Canada. The first wave consisted mostly of middle-class immigrants.
