Chen Jian (diplomat)
Chen Jian (born 2 February 1942) is a Chinese diplomat. He was the Under-Secretary-General for General Assembly and Conference Management of United Nations from 2001 to 2007. Early years Chen was born in Suzhou in 1942. He graduated from Shanghai Sanlin High School and went to Fudan University. He then received his bachelor's degree in English from Fudan in 1964. He furthered her English Translation Study in Beijing Foreign Studies University from 1964 to 1966. Diplomat career From 1966 to 1972, Chen worked as Staff member of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). 1972, he became attaché of the Permanent Mission of the People's Republic of China (PRC) to the United Nations until 1977. Chen Jian (born July 1952) is the Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce. He began his career in May 1969 and joined the CPC in January 1976. He graduated from Beijing Second Foreign Language University majoring in Spanish, and holds the title of Senior International Business Engineer. Chen served successively in the Department of Political Affairs of the Ministry of Economic Relations with Foreign Countries (MERFC), the Second Bureau of MERFC, the Economic Counselor’s Office of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Guinea-Bissau, and the Department of Personnel and Education of the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade. Chen Jian (; born June 1961) is a former Chinese politician. He was investigated by China's top anti-graft agency in April 2022. Previously he served as a counsellor of Yunnan Provincial People's Government and before that, party secretary of Dali. Biography Chen was born in Kunming, Yunnan, in June 1961. He worked in Kunming Survey and Design Institute between August 1982 and October 1997. He joined the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in June 1988. Beginning in October 1997, he served in several posts in Yunnan Development Investment Co., Ltd., including deputy manager, manager, and manager of investment department. In November 2001, he was assigned to the Yunnan Provincial Water Resources Department, where he eventually became its head. In January 2017, he was appointed party secretary of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, and held that office until April 2021. Chen Jian (born 1952) is a Chinese historian who holds the Hu Shih emeritus professorship of History and China-US Relations at Cornell University. His specialties include modern Chinese history, the history of Chinese-American relations, and Cold War international history. He is also Zijiang Distinguished Visiting Professor at East China Normal University and Distinguished Global Network Professor of History at New York University Shanghai. Chen Jian has held the Philippe Roman Chair in History and International Affairs at LSE IDEAS (2008-2009), where he remains a Senior Fellow, and was a research scholar from 2009-2013 at the University of Hong Kong. He was also (2013-2014) a Global Fellow of the Woodrow Wilson Center, where he has been a Senior Scholar since 2005.
